Well for a change the weather prognosticators were right - they predicted that it would snow like crazy here, and it is. It started right before rush hour this morning and is supposed to continue for most of the day, with accumulations up to 12" expected in the metro area. I decided not to risk going to work and getting stranded there. The snow is supposed to continue through tomorrow. Loads of fun in store for all.

Are you afraid that metro transit will stop running? I think that Omaha's has announced limited or halted service during some severe winter conditions or blizzards in the past.

We're getting all rain out of the storm system, but lots of it. Up to 4" is predicted in some areas. A flood watch is in effect near the rivers that are already full from snowmelt.

If this was going to be snow, I'd be checking the flashlight batteries and emergency candles. We'd be measuring it in feet, not inches.

12"? That would be a significant snowfall even up here. I can't imagine how you'd handle that in Kentucky!

You made the right decision to stay home. Businesses*, unlike schools, won't decide to close until conditions are already too bad to get home.




*Even if that business is a subsidiary of Uncle Sam.

No, I'm concerned about it running two hours behind schedule because of road conditions. I would have hated to get to work only to have the DE come by and tell everyone to go home (as happened a couple weeks ago when there was a lot of sleet falling) and have to wait for a bus while the snow falls around me. elwing didn't go to work, either, but in her case it was because she's feeling poorly.

Sometimes they do - in December 2004 the snow fell overnight and the word went out that the district office was closed. The way I looked at it, I'd get to work, maybe put an hour in, then be sent home, so why go through all the hassle?

Well, your storm has stranded my daughter. She was in Cinncy all week for training and she managed to get to the airport this afternoon but her flight was canceled. Hopefully the flights will be back on tomorrow.
