Diane is as awesome in real life as she seemed on the show. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why the producers passed on her a dozen times. It was brutal watching the audience go so strongly for Chuck Norris, but I didn't meet anyone else in the green room better equipped to deal with a lousy break.

What felt really super awful, though, was that Diane and Clarence didn't get to play until their third day in the green room. So all that waiting and then... this.

Diana further said that persistence pays off. That's demonstrably not true.

Hey, Meredith, why don't you call your APs on camera and have them tell us exactly why Diane's 12th time was the charm?

Ouch!

I'd have needed lifelines on the same questions as Diane did, and gone down in flames the same way. What made Chuck Norris such an attractive distractor for the audience?

Probably because he's the only one of the choices you'd think could fire up a football team. He's tough. It's a totally wicked distractor.

OK, that she went down in flames hurt because she was doing decently until then, & she's a standin for all of us frequent-attempted-fliers.
Question 1 - 7 Far Out Stories
In 2011, what country’s government reportedly discouraged TV dramas that feature time travel claiming they depict history in a frivolous way?
A. China
B. Australia
C. Russia
D. Turkey

JTQ 1

[Reveal] Spoiler:
I did not know this; had it down to the eventual right answer by "current govt's other regs" but would not have gone with it. JTQ1

Question 2 - 4 Pleasure Principle
Popularly referred to as a “coregasm,” a 20112 study found that 40% of the women surveyed reported experiencing sexual pleasure while engaging in what daily activity?
A. Commuting to work
B. Getting dressed
C. Working out at the gym
D. Sleeping

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Find this a repulsive Q from the advertised SNL staff-writers reportedly now writing BAM Qs. Also, wonder what group of women they're surveying, exactly. Guessed the right answer by the obnoxious name (people refer to "core exercises" for whatever reason) & would have gone with it.

Question 3 - 3 Other Uses
According to its website, what confectionery’s container can be reused for a variety of things, including as an “emergency wilderness stove”?
A. Altoids
B. Life Savers
C. Orgit
D. Tic Tac

[Reveal] Spoiler:

Yuch. I have no flippin' idea what Orgit is, to start with. I guess its "a confectionery", from the Q. I have never visited the web site of any of them. It would be hard to figure how Life Saver rolls or Tic Tac boxes could be used as a stove. Whereas an Altoids tin could be. In an emergency. In the wilderness. Helps I know they're sold in that little tin box. And I know Altoids are into ads with oddball "very English" archaic-winsomeness attempts, like "curiously strong".

Go for Altoids, hold my breath.

Question 4 - 5 Game Biology
Pikachurin, a protein that helps the eyes transmit information to the brain, is named after a character from what video game?
A. Legend of Zelda
B. Pac-Man
C. Super Mario Bros.
D. Pokémon

[Reveal] Spoiler:
No flaming idea. Pretty sure it isn't Mario Bros or Pac-Man, from what I've read about them. ATA

Question 5 - 2 Creative Naming
Named by blending the French words for “velvet” and “hook,” what invention was initially marketed as “the zipperless zipper”?
A. Nylon
B. Velcro
C. Pleather
D. Vinyl

[Reveal] Spoiler:
got it. Not that I speak French. From the description of what it does.

Question 6 - 9 The Dog House
According to the American Kennel Club, which of the following is a breed of dog tat has lived in the White House during three presidencies?
A. Lhasa Apso
B. Chihuahua
C. Scottish terrier
D. Alaskan Malamute

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Like contestant, I remembered Fala. Also, the late & very much missed Facto was a Lhasa, & I'm kinda up on Lhasa lore, so know that's not the answer. They're asking about 3 presidents, though. I have never read of a presidential chihuahua or malamute, so go with the "I know of one terrier" & hold breath.

Question 7 - 6 The Whole Proof
According to an oft-misquoted phrase that is centuries old, “the proof of the pudding is in the” what?
A. Cooling
B. Eating
C. Cleaning
D. Stirring

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Easy

Question 8 - 1 Baby Gifts
John Deere sells blue and pink baby bibs that are covered with pictures of what vehicles?
A. Bicycles
B. Canoes
C. Tractors
D. Helicopters

[Reveal] Spoiler:

Also easy.

Question 9 - 8 Public Splits
What rapper made news by posing with ex-wife Kelis’ green wedding dress for the cover of his 2012 album “Life is Good”?
A. Common
B. Ludacris
C. Nas
D. Mos Def

JTQ 2

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Even though I watch/read my share of gossip about characters I know nothing else about, I missed this one, & don't know which one was married to Kelis, who I also know nothing about. JTQ2

Question 10 – 10 Super Bowl Fans
Right before leading his 49ers on a 92-yard drive to win Super Bowl XXIII, Joe Montana pointed into the crowd and said, “Hey, isn’t that…” who?
A. Drew Barrymore
B. John Candy
C. Molly Ringwald
D. Chuck Norris

ATA

[Reveal] Spoiler: ATA results
I do not know. This was long enough ago, though, that I don't believe Barrymore would have been old enough to attend unattended, & Ringwald might have been off radar too. Also, I'm not sure how high Montana's Barrymore/Ringwald consciousness would have been. I'm leaning toward Norris. I'd be very upset at having used up my ATA. (Whereas contestant was Dursted by them.)

I would probably go for Norris without the benefit of an ATA Dursting. And lose, of course. I like to think I'd walk with the $$ instead if I had a lot, but I'll have to go back & look at actual $$ amounts I'd have accumulated to see if walking would leave me "enough".

I don't think so. You know it or you don't. It's just one of those random trivia factoids - I've heard of this a few places, but I can't imagine any way to figure it out if you didn't just know it. The idea was, it was so silly to point out John Candy that Montana's teammates began to relax.

It's an obscenely obscure Q for the "under 100K Qs". I think the pointers are

in question-writers this year reportedly being recruited from SNL, a show which was populated by a few alums of SCTV, a much funnier show. Candy was an SCTW alum. Though the question-writer probably wasn't born back when he was on. But it might be their form of obscure salute back to their buddies who still write for SNL.
