FINAL STANDINGS FOR MARCH LYRICALLY SPEAKING
Day one is in the books and we've already managed to get Eyegor and SportsFan back into the gameplaying fold! So it's a success no matter what, right? RIGHT??
Remember, the scoring is by the 10s, so a 10 point difference is like a 1 point difference.

Wrong ghost. Right now, ghostjmf has the Official Cellar as she has played both games. I might have to put stars and flowers around the Official Cellar Dweller every day, just so they get their proper due and not get lumped in the slackers. Standings through Friday, March 7
On the strength of her perfect Old Fart score, Mel rockets up to tbone's porch and says "I hope you know some C&W there, hoss". Meanwhile I'm not sure how to break the news to littlebeast, but you were outscored Friday by Marley, who is legitimately out of the cellar, as he and Bob both have one DNP so far this month.

Getting outscored by Marley in a game with "Old Fart" in the title is (cue the George Carlin) fine and dandy with me. Now if he ever beats me on Metal/Rock Monday, I will officially resign from ever playing LS again....fantine33 wrote:Meanwhile I'm not sure how to break the news to littlebeast, but you were outscored Friday by Marley, who is legitimately out of the cellar, as he and Bob both have one DNP so far this month.

Both fine AND dandy? Meanwhile, you will sadly have to keep waiting to find out how your score today ranks with your original, as you chose to be snobby and not play back the first Metal Monday in 2002.littlebeast13 wrote:Getting outscored by Marley in a game with "Old Fart" in the title is (cue the George Carlin) fine and dandy with me. lb's quote from Friday's game:
Also thanks for invoking the Carlin. I wasn't home for the live airing of his new show on HBO a couple Saturdays ago, and I forgot to check the listings so I can catch a repeat.
Admit it, you care, whether it's Old Fart day or not!littlebeast13 wrote:I'm going to protest if Marley actually scores higher than me on an LS game.....

GASP! You dealt me a dream game and I didn't play it!?!?!?!? Figures! I will have to go look that day up and see if something else was preoccupying my time....
As for the avatar, now if we had your cat prancing around the side of it, then it would look like a genuine fanny cleaning product.....

Melly manages to pass tbone, but TLITF gets some help from his buddy David Allan Coe to muscle past them both! We're back to more normal fodder for the next few days, so we'll see if that changes things. Remember, there are over 200 points available in every game and the month is young!

Don't give me any ideas. I'm half tempted to haul down the HJ off the shelf and give it a try. Of course, Fanny the prancing little camera hog won't go anywhere near it if I WANT her to pose with it.littlebeast13 wrote:As for the avatar, now if we had your cat prancing around the side of it, then it would look like a genuine fanny cleaning product.....

Wouldn't you know it? With giving odd points on Theme Thursday and handing out Participation Points, there still ends up being a tie! I'm sure lb will be thrilled about the tie, as that nets him spot 13. Funniest thing, I noticed when I updated the spreadsheet last night that adding his bonus point onto his correct Johnny Cash answer gave him a score of 13 for the today (since I didn't take away his participation point). Had I taken it away, not only wouldn't his score have been 13, but mntetn would have spot 13 all to himself! Fun with numbers, I love it!

Speaking of fun with numbers, I told Marley awhile back that I had played around with the idea of also giving standings that better represented performances other than by just sheer number of games played (or not played).
So, with week one completed, so I came up with a formula. The first number is the raw score that was in the previous post. It's then divided by the number of games played. With that, I noticed that people who just played one game where they knew all the answers were on top, so I weighted it by then multiplying the score by .6 for 6 games played, etc. That seemed to give a more fairly distributed score, lessening the penalization of people who faithfully play every day, even if it's a weak area for them. If any of you mathletes playing the game this month has a method that seems to better accomplish my goal, please let me know because I just kind of pulled this one out of my ass using common sense (a whole lot of which I do not possess).
Also, as in the QOD I did in December, starting next week there will be a few players on the "inactive" list. If someone has gone 3 or more consecutive games with a DNP each Tuesday, they'll be moved to the DL. If they play again, they'll be back on the big list and, of course, they'll be counted in the Final Standings.

Standings through Wednesday, March 12
And things change around a little, as tbone and mrkelley use their crazy Yankovic savant tendencies to overtake TLITF. KT and earendel hop over Galahad while Nelly rockets up 3 spots and is what amounts to 4 points away from fourth place. Perhaps most exciting of all, Marley reclaims his rightful place on the throne of Bottomsburg as Vadame moves over to the inactive list.

Although I didn't do that just to make you happy (I did it on the QOD as well), that's an added bonus. Everybody's scores will be on the final total, of course, but we'll see if my weighted formula evens things out.MarleysGh0st wrote:Woo hoo!fantine33 wrote:Perhaps most exciting of all, Marley reclaims his rightful place on the throne of Bottomsburg as Vadame moves over to the inactive list.
Thanks, fantine. I've been scoring way too many points this months to hope for the cellar without that inactive list rule!

I've been waiting for somebody else to notice, but the weighted formula just divides everyone's score by 10. For example, .6/6=1/10, .5/5=1/10, etc. Putting it another way, it basically changes the 10-point system to a 1-point system.fantine33 wrote:Everybody's scores will be on the final total, of course, but we'll see if my weighted formula evens things out.

This is hilarious!

I will use the reverse of this weighted system next year to convert my 1 point game into a 10 point game.....

Even though I'm a bit retarded in my arithmetic skills, I spent a fair bit of time trying to figure out how to make the scores better reflect actual performance. It seemed that I was somehow robbing Peter to pay Paul, but the scores were separated by a few columns on the spreadsheet and the standings changed once I added the second step, so I didn't realize that they were basically brought back to where they started.littlebeast13 wrote:mntetn wrote:I've been waiting for somebody else to notice, but the weighted formula just divides everyone's score by 10. Should I keep waiting for you guys to offer some suggestion to help improve this, or are you still too busy laughing at me?fantine33 wrote:That seemed to give a more fairly distributed score, lessening the penalization of people who faithfully play every day, even if it's a weak area for them. If any of you mathletes playing the game this month has a method that seems to better accomplish my goal, please let me know because I just kind of pulled this one out of my ass using common sense (a whole lot of which I do not possess).

Sorry. I just found it funny how you went back to the old system and unintentionally brought back the new system.
I have no suggestions for a weighted score system to ensure the Marleys of the world do not get crowded out of the basement by the drive-by players, thus why I just posted the straight standings and let any determinations be made from that....
