But this question is easy, right? The answer is right there on the National Archives website for everyone to see!!!

Wow--rare stack that has me reaching Classic with all lifelines intact! Helps that Adele shares a last name with one of my friends.

But I'd start burning lifelines on the Houdini one...

Okay, I'm calling Shenanigans on the Houdini question. I'm a professional magician and even developing a show ABOUT THE LIFE AND TIMES OF HARRY HOUDINI. I've never heard of this. It might be the correct answer, but come on. If a professional in Houdini's field, studying assorted biographies, can't recognize anything about the question, that seems a WWOQ writ large.

I don't know how old you are, but something popped into my head and it's just a vague memory from the late 70's/early 80's involving a mystery/puzzle/game (?) of some sort and Houdini and the letters HHH. It would have been something my older sister was into (she'll be 51 next month.) I might be imagining the whole thing--I'm not Vague Mini sometimes for nothing! But it crept into my semi-consciousness after I read the question and replied to the post. You may have come across pop culture references to it while researching your show. Or not, if it didn't actually exist and I'm hallucinating the whole thing...

It actually existed!

No confirmation on the HHH yet--might be in the booklet.

I have a co-worker who still spells it without the h in email. I must remind him that Pittsburg is a small town in the Bay area near Martinez, the home of Joe DiMaggio.

I'm 29, so that's before my time. HHH had a tinge of familiarity, and my best guess would have been correct for that reason. But no way would I have gone with that. I was surprised, at first, that he was able to use Houdini and not Weiss on his draft card.

That's not really how he "first attracted notice." He first attracted notice in the states. It may be in the first graf of his Wikipedia page, but that's more likely the reason the BAM writers and stackers thought this was a good question than it is proof this is something known even by magicians.

This blog has a picture of the draft card in question, and mentions that it appeared on Ancestry.com for a while in 2007 or so.

I guessed Handcuff from the convenience of my computer chair.

Okay, just got back from the magic shop and can confirm: nobody had ever heard of this, nor did it ring a bell for any of them after the answer was revealed. This includes a septuagenarian magic lifer and the proprietor of one of the most significant magic shops in America, among a couple assorted amateurs and professionals.
