I mean, really??????? Aren't we finished with this nonsense for the year???? When they have snowfall predictions combined with hurricane alerts, it's too late for the hurricane. Sandy needs to get the heck away.

Besides, all my weekend plans past tonight are related to baseball tournaments and theme parks. Outside stuff. Tonight is zombie-related and rain would just make us look more like we were dug up, so of course the weather will be beautiful...

(All you up north stay safe, ya hear?!?!?!)

If the European Model is right she's heading right for you.

We in SE Mass are on the upper edge of the predicted path (okay, one of the predicted paths). We'll start battening down the hatches tomorrow.

Get used to hearing the term "hybrid hurricane" (or "hurricane hybrid") over the next dew days.

My wife and the hurricane share the same name. Any connection (implied or otherwise) is verboten!

We're fortunately on the fringes of most forecasts, but rain rain rain. I'm hoping the one I saw labelled 'LBAR' is the right one--it's the only one turning it away from the coast altogether.

How come every time I hear the name "Sandy" mentioned with this hurricane, tunes from Grease keep popping into my head?

Let's face it, "Summer Nights" just doesn't get me motivated for hurricane prep!

I always wanted a hurricane, but by the time they got to the Ws I think everyone would be so sick of storms I'd get cussed out if the wind reached 12 knots and it rained for 15 minutes.

This was such a calm year, too. At least I had the pool closed Monday--it's been in the 80s but I couldn't keep up with all the &*%@#$# acorns so I had it shut down for the season. I've made one smart move all year!! Mark your calendars!!!!!

Van and Wendy were the two unused names from the 1995 hurricane season. Don't as me why I remember that, but I do.....

Make it 'Vandal' and it would be a perfect end to a wretched weather season!!

I remember 1995. Felix. Never hit but we were begging for some rain from it since it was over 90 for 30 straight days and we were under water restrictions even if you had a well for your lawn. Rain Man was a baby and I had to bathe him twice a day since he was a chubby, sweaty thing...

I remember Felix, or at least a guy in the stands at Camden Yards they showed on SportsCenter holding up a sign that said "Stay Away Felix!" It was supposed to hit during the homestand where Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played streak. Just one rainout, and that historic game woulda been played in Cleveland....

We have battery-power radios, flashlights, fresh C&D batteries, tarps, extra afghans for the car (in case we have to evacuate), important papers (like Wildwood flood insurance), non-perishable food, manual can opener, bottled water, kitty litter for sandbags (for the front of the garage).

Tomorrow, we make the sandbags and prep the crawlspace for a power failure (and the sump pump shuts off).

The best thing about this is that TLAF no longer lives in Wildwood. Cape May County is calling for mandatory evacuations of all shore towns by Sunday.

I am resigned to losing the Wildwood house. Or at least having it suffer severe damage.

Nothing there is irreplaceable. Still, I just can't help thinking of all the work Boonie and I put into it to get it ready for our retirement an semi-retirement.

Tonight we got to the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial's 25th anniversary commemoration.

Puts everything in perspective.

I am just praying for everyone's safety.

I really thought I'd never utter the words "I live in hurricane country". Looks like we're back in a motel early next week.

Stay safe, all my east coast brothers and sisters.

I am sooooo sick of this shit. :(

We got in half an inning of our game, and even that was played in the rain. Looks like we won't get to start over until Thursday if they can get the field ready even then! They played the first two games at least so it's down to 3 teams. We only started our game because the other team was hoping to face us with Mini-me and our other starting pitcher only eligible to pitch one inning apiece, but now the calendar resets at midnight Sunday.

We're at the lower edge of the forecast for likely power outages, so y'all will likely have a nice break from my ramblings early next week! :P

Take care, mini!

Do y'all ever think of evacuating or do you think you have enough kayaks to ride it out if the water gets high?

We have a marsh behind us but we're fairly high up on this side of the peninsula-like area we live in. The west side is lower and more likely to have high-water issues. The big problem is trees taking out power lines. They've buried a bunch of utilities and trimmed trees but the derecho knocked us out while Irene did nothing. I imagine the church parking lot is going to fill up tonight--we have huge lots in front and back and people bring their cars that don't fit in the garage there when storms come. Stephen brought his kayak up to our deck before he left for school so I don't have to slog down the slope to drag it up before it floats away, thankfully.

The beach house shouldn't be an issue (knock wood) because the flooding should be soundside, and people bring their cars up to the parking lots on the oceanside for safety.

This should be a nuisance storm for us--maybe power out and schools closed. The big problems will be farther north like with Irene.
