INCREDIBLY surprised the audience somehow got this. How long did he deliberate before asking them? I would have made everyone sit through me meticulously listing the presidents one by one until I got to Taft.
In this town, don't we love it now, everbody's waiting for the next surprise!

How could he feel so comfortable going with the audience there? You still won't feel 100% sure unless you figure out who CAA or JEF is.

OK, lessee -- WHT, nothing offhand, come back to it, JEF, same thing, CAA, Chester A. Arthur, RBH, Rutherford B. Hayes, back to WHT, William Howard Taft. JEF, final answer.
-- In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.

Joey joked about being a Yalie; afterward Meredith said that he owed Harvard big time.

Hmmm...William Howard Taft, Rutherford B. Hayes, Chester A. Arthur...that makes it "B". Plus we've only had one president whose last name started with "F" - Fillmore.

Once again there was an attempt to "sex up" the show as Meredith said she felt uncomfortable talking about buns with someone who was "barely legal".

Jerry Ford would be shocked to hear that. :P

Here's an article about Joey's first episode:

http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2012/ ... oss-campus
Yagoda said he auditioned because he’s “always loved game shows," adding that auditions were easy to attend since they were held in his home state of New York.

For all of you out there wondering whether he missed class to tape this episode, fret not — he was able to finish his taping and then catch the train back to New Haven in time for class.

He came up with Taft almost instantly, gave up fairly quickly on JEF, mulled over CAA for a bit, then moved on to RBH, which took him a good 10 or 15 seconds to come up with. He went back and tried a bit more on CAA, then threw up his hands and asked the audience.

I agree that it was odd for him to use his lifeline that way. He could have at least tried to go through the presidents chronologically; even if he didn't know every single one, there's a reasonable chance that he'd stumble on a match.

Yagoda, who collected $13,600 by the end of the first taping, advanced past six questions before the show ended, correctly answering questions about early medicine, "thick accents" and T.S. Eliot.
Oh, so jumping the question counts as answering it correctly?

I just noticed that the author of Draft (a New York Times column on writing) is Ben Yagoda. I assume they're related. --Bob
