I'm trying to decide whether The Spiderwick Chronicles is suitable for The Little Guy. Any thoughts? Details that will allow me to assess the matter for myself would be greatly appreciated. --Bob

Lady Soleil probably will have the best information for you. I have seen only PR release kind of stuff. She will know more about the appropriate age range for readership.
Edit: I just browsed around some pages on Amazon. The stuff I found seemed rather delightful, assuming you don't mind the Little Guy reading about fairies and other little-seen creatures. If he seems interested, I say buy him one of the books. He has the reading skills, and he'll like it or he won't. Either way, it won't warp him for life.

Maddie read the books, but we have been too busy to see the movie. Are you asking about the movie?
Here is a parent guidance site:

Thanks, shinycar, but I actually meant the movie. The little information Ms. 63 has seen has her concerned that he might find it too intense.
The thought of buying him the books never even occurred to me. It's a good one, though. Once he finishes Deathly Hallows, I may well pick the first book up for him. (I might even give it a read myself.) --Bob

Sorry about that. I didn't even realize there was a movie.

It was serendipitous, and I complete overlooked the possibility (even probability) that people would think I'm referring to the book. As I said, without your prompting it might not have occurred to me to buy him the book. And I have far fewer reservations about giving him the book than about taking him to the movie. --Bob

That's how I feel as well. I pretty much let my kids read whatever they want to.

The Spiderwick Chronicles is one movie that you can judge the content level fairly accurately by the trailer. If you've seen the trailer and think the violence/horror level is too intense for your children, don't go.
We have a five-year-old grandson and ten-year-old granddaughter. We would take the girl but not the boy to see this one.
