This is an ancient memory for me. I think I learned it the first time I studied the Civil War in Jr. High.

I can't recall ever hearing of Ruggero Marino, but from the Amazon summary, it sounds like that was only a minor point from the book!

I was all set to get all bent out of shape on what seemed at first to be a single-source question, but I googled it by subtracting out Marino and got lots of hits with the same theory.

This was the first time I'd heard of the theory that Columbus was the son of a pope. However, I've heard or read another of Marino's theories several times, the one positing that 1492 was Columbus's second voyage to what later became North America.

Unless there was a vast conspiracy, his first voyage was in 1492. He obviously did not know how far he had to go before he got to land in the west on that voyage.

Columbus was a Jew from Barcelona anyway.

So, based on yesterday's transcript I would still have all my lifelines. No doubt that I JTQ here. Like Rishi I could have eliminated B and D (although there was this nagging voice in my head saying "maybe he was a French pope"). Unlike Rishi I would have been leaning toward Leonardo. Turns out that Innocent was born in Genoa, Columbus' home town.

I find it interesting that neither of the Wikipedia entries for Innocent VIII and Columbus mentions this possible relationship. The Columbus article, in fact, states that his father was "Domenico Colombo, a middle-class wool weaver".

But it's the lack of all evidence that shows how huge the conspiracy is!!! :P
