Since Obama's middle name has become a topic of discussion, how about a pop quiz on the other candidates? (Sorry to slight the Democrats, but I'm only covering those still in the race.)

Clinton? (Hint: It's not Rodham!)
McCain?
Huckabee?
Paul?
Spoiler
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton
John Sidney McCain III
Michael Dale Huckabee
Ronald Ernest Paul

Does it matter?

I thought you were asking what our middle names are.

Mine's Robinson, for the record.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing.

Mine is Veronica, because I'm Irish and I'm Catholic and that's how we roll. Slainte!

PS I think it's so classy when people have last names for middle names. Especially if they have de or du in front of them.

I wouldn't pry like that, but thank you for your answers, nitrahRobinson55 and fantineVeronica33.

Spoiler
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton
John Sidney McCain

Huckabee & Paul - NAC
Mine's Elizabeth. I went by Mary Beth till I was 17, when I went to get my drivers license & found out that wasn't what was on my birth certificate!

My parents had gotten me things like savings bonds, bank accounts -- even my school enrollment -- as Mary Beth. It was a big pain in the butt getting it straightened out.

Mine are Erwin William - officially! I've never heard of a birth certificate with more than one middle name, but mine does!

Hey VADame--I'm an Elizabeth, too. When I was little I couldn't pronounce it and I think we had a babysitter named Elizabeth as well. I called it "Ittybutt". Therefore, I was Kimmy Ittybutt.

Don't worry, I'll never tell my middle name!

Ugh. If we have to confess our middle names, then I guess I have to confess my REAL first name. And it just doesn't suit me.

Alas. My real name is Gwendolyn. Worse, my mom WAS going to name me Gwenevere. Or however it would have been spelled. I like my middle name, but it doesn't go with my nickname. I was overnamed Gwendolyn Erika. Strangers and telemarketers call me Gwen. That's how I weed them out.

Are you kidding me?

Each of my munchkins has two middle names.

It is not that rare.

It's not rare for people to have more than one middle name, but it is rare for both to appear on official documents.

Perhaps it is rare but it can happen. My girlfriend has 3 "middle" names, all of which are listed on her passports and birth certificate. Alas, I guess my parents were not so creative as I have but one.

Not really. If you actually have two middle names, they will appear on all official documents, as long as the person filling them out (like dear ol' mom or dad) put them there.

All three kids have their full names on birth certificates et al.

Aha. That explains why Lizbutt was so determined to bond with you. You had much in common.

I always thought my middle name was Brownhound, but my mom has started saying it must be Miracle, now.

My middle name is Marlene. I would like you to think of Ms. Dietrich, even though there's little reason why I would otherwise remind you of her.

Of course, I also would like my first name to be pronounced Zhoodeet. Virtually the entire English-speaking world refuses to grant that request, too.

My parents didn't give me a middle name. They figured that I would just use my maiden name as my middle name when I got married and I did.

Somehow Ron Paul's middle name fits a little too well.

My middle name is Jay, after a rich uncle. I got $32 silver dollars from him on my 4th birthday. Nothing when he died, or when his wife, my blood great aunt died. So it didn't work.

My parents had the best first/middle combos.

Leland Elmo
Fannie Gertrude

I was kind of annoyed that my parents put legal documents under a nickname -- I think my first Social Security card even had "Mary Beth" on it! I ended up changing it to Mary E. when I got married.

But I guess it was a proud tradition in my Dad's family, where it seems nobody got called by their real first name. My Dad, Michael Leo, was "Leo" as a boy, or sometimes "Ike." Never "Mike" until he was drafted! The Army took one look at his birth certificate & he was "Mike" McGinnis from then on, no matter what he wanted to be called.

It was pretty cool when he met Eisenhower, though -- he wrote home that he met "a fellow with the same nickname as me, but he's a little older and instead of 4 stripes, he's got 4 stars!"

Grandma (Dad's Mom) whom the Mary part of my name is from was Mary Ann. She hated it and had everyone call her "Marie" until the day she died.

I wonder why the heck they didn't just name me "Marie" -- I coulda lived with that
