OK, T-Bone, take it away. I thought, save for Carly, all the songs were either way pitchy or snoozers. Alexandrea's rendition of If You Leave Me Now was second best of the night with Asia'h third.

I thought Kady taking on Heart was almost laughable.

I guess Simon has never heard of Eric Carmen.

Who leaving tomorrow? My guess is that it will be Amanda and Alaina.

The person that does everyone's hair should be voted off. Yikes..Amanda must not have a mirror in her dressing room. I don't want Carly to win because I don't think it is fair that she worked at Randy's record label. The song choices weren't very good tonight.

A snoozefest tonight for sure. Last week the gals outdid the guys. This week the guys WAAAAY outdid the gals.

1-CARLY SMITHSON-"Crazy on You". Not perfect (the ending was overbaked and she had breath control issues), but the best of the night. Shows you what kind of night it was. B
2-RAMIELE MALUBAY "Don't Leave Me This Way". Nothing terrible, just not very exciting. I enjoyed her hula dancing in the video a lot more than Sanjaya's last year. B-
3-SYESHA MERCADO-"Me and Mrs. (or in her case Mr.) Jones". I hate this song and I'm not crazy about her personality (she just impresses me as someone with a bit too much in the ego dept.). She had some great moments when she aired it out but some very average ones as well. B-
4-BROOKE WHITE-"You're So Vain". I love her personality but I was not as impressed as the judges. This was just ok to me. B-
5-ASIA'H EPPERSON-"All By Myself". Shaky to start, picked it up halfway through. C+
6-KRISTY LEE COOK-"You're No Good". Better than last week but that's not saying much. If she's back next week she may have to pull out "Amazing Grace" again. That's a BIG if, though..she forgot the cardinal rule of "Idol"-never sing a song with a title that's gonna carry too much irony if you have to sing it again as your exit song the next night. C-
7-ALEXANDREA LUSHINGTON-"If You Leave Me Now". Actually Simon, there is at least one other person who can sing the socks off this song, as I heard Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire nail it to the wall. But Phillip wasn't there tonight. Alexandrea was, and this was a bad choice for her. Her vocal runs were ill-advised. The rest of her performance was just so-so. C-
8-ALAINA WHITAKER-"Hopelessly Devoted To You'. A safe, cliched, played-out song choice. Mediocre with a capital M. No, worse, as Carrie..I mean Alaina..was offkey more often than not. D+
9-KADY MALLOY-"Magic Man". Flat out awful. She dialed the 'tude down tonight, but she still was terrible. And Simon, you never heard of this song? Do you ever listen to anything but the playback of your critiques? F
10-AMANDA OVERMYER-"Carry On Wayward Son". Oh Amanda, it pains me so to say this, but it's nothing compared to the pain you inflicted on my ears tonight. You know I love you, but you were terrible tonight. I really want to see you again next week, but I feel that the 30 million viewers of this show may conspire to keep us forever apart after tomorrow night. I'll miss you. But I promise to avenge you against whoever did that to your hair. F

My Tuesdays are way too hectic, so I haven't seen much of the guys, but I did see most of this one (I missed some here and there in the last half hour as the Nuggets game had started, but I think I mostly missed the "what you don't know is so boring you won't care anyway" segments.

I thought that Ramiele started out really well and had high hopes, but she just couldn't crank up the Thelma when it counted.

Carly Ink did pretty well on my fave Heart song.

Whoever sang the Billy Paul song at least gets points for the theme dressing (she kind of reminds me of Erykah Badu). But I hate it when someone tries to jam a song into another gender. I didn't mind Lupe Extravaganza going all Karen Carpenter last night and am even okay with changing some pronouns if necessary, but when you have to change the words of the TITLE line of the song it's just too jarring.

Brooke Good Girl I liked the best with You're So Vain. I especially enjoyed the, I don't know, I call it a crack but that's not what what it actually is, in her voice during the chorus.

The girl who slaughtered Eric Carmen (Aisha?) is dead to me. It's bad enough that Celine Dion had to make it a 'diva' song, but at least could pull it off. This girl just screamed and carried on with a song that's supposed to be introspective and heartbreaking and claw at your soul, just as God and Rachmaninov intended.

And Simon was wrong about nobody ever being able to do anything with If You Leave Me Now since Chicago, because Leopold Stoch OWNS that song! So much so that I can't stand to hear anybody else sing it.

I don't think it's unfair, because I think the producers are smart enough to disqualify people who don't fit their rules. They know not to put through people who've had unfair contact with the judges.

But it doesn't matter, because she won't win.

Why? Too many of us do not like her. There is a fundamental quality about the winners: big chunks of people like them. Not everyone, of course. Carly just has too many things about her that won't sell enough tickets or albums.

I think her best bet is to go for a Sarah McLaughlin kind of act, which is a respectable niche.

Why don't you like her? I don't like her because she is not American, has already had an album and it didn't sell, her tatoos, too much hair product on her hair and the way that the show is forcing her on the audience.

And since there is such a clear cut winner amongst the guys, the rest doesn't seem to matter too much.

I like her just as much as the others, which is to say I'd like them all better if they sang songs from Mr. Mozart or Mr. Handel. But, if Mr. Simon thinks she's wonderful and if Mr. Simon has a record company, why didn't he just sign her to his label and promote her with guest appearances on his television show and the Idol tours? Is more stuff tax deductible or is she stuck with a tighter contract if she goes through as a contestant? Two-footers really confuse me sometimes.

What does tax deductible mean, anyway? I don't have to file taxes, because I'm not old enough.

Edit: My mom just told me that I don't have to file taxes because I don't make money, I just spend it. That sounds pretty good to me.

This song showed that you do not have to shout while belting out the notes. She can sing with power and control. She just isn't someone the audience can warm to. I enjoyed this.

Kinda contrived, which made it distracting, but she really can sing. Also not someone who I can warm to. What's in the middle of her name? Yeeesh....

Good, but not great. The best part was Simon admitting he thought the song was about him. Not too Carrieish at all tonight.

5-ASIA'H EPPERSON-"All By Myself".

I will give her the benefit of the doubt for being sick, but I wish everyone would knock it off with the Celine diva crap and sing it like Eric instead.

6-KRISTY LEE COOK-"You're No Good".

Scary Carrie skipped the eye thing and started pole dancing instead. Much better singing and performing than last week. Just not my thing. Very generic.

7-ALEXANDREA LUSHINGTON-"If You Leave Me Now".

I liked some of the arrangement near the end and how she's more funky than pretty. I hope she sticks around.

8-ALAINA WHITAKER-"Hopelessly Devoted To You'.

I actually had trouble remembering which Carrie she was. This is the Uber-Carrie girl. I love this song and she butchered it, but she's pretty funny so I will let her slide.

9-KADY MALLOY-"Magic Man".

Pouty Carrie sang a song I absolutely hate and...UGH! Ick! It sounded better when they were giving out the phone numbers, so maybe they used a clip from rehearsals, but if that's the case she's going to have to get over whatever her problem is with live performances. I also liked the opera thing.

10-AMANDA OVERMYER-"Carry On Wayward Son".

I was just waiting to hear her do some Creedence. "747 coming out..." No joy. This was wretched. She really has a pretty face, and she better hope she ages like her mama, who is beautiful.

The Fern took over my viewing. This show started better than it ended--the opposite of the guys last night.

I like many people who are not American, so that's not a factor for me. Americans are not all that.

I like that she owns a tatoo place and has a tatoo herself, or the one we know of. That is bold and risky for some women, to not let the social expectations dictate who they can become.

I have a lot of sympathy for someone who tried a big risky project (her earlier album) and it failed, and now she is trying again.

Her hair? I cannot exclude someone because of their hair. Number One, you can't do much about what you were born with, and Number Two, the show people do try to do stuff to it and for all we know, they make it worse.

The show forcing her on us? Again, not her fault.

Huh. Maybe I like her more than I realized, or at least I find her worth rooting for. I have not seen last night's show yet, to hear her performance. That's what I judge people on, is their performance. I close my eyes and ask myself do I want to purchase this artist or this song. It isn't about pretty, or where you were born, because you have no control over those things. They are accidents of birth, and could be otherwise. Our job is to make ourselves who we want to be regardless of those things.

I think what made me believe she would not win is that she does not do pop. Her voice is so articulate and trained, that she may not be able to perform in a way that young people will relate to her. Young people are the ones who spend the most money on the music, so that's who they want to win.

I was so out of it, when LaToya London sang "All By Myself" in Season 3 in this round of 24, I thought she was amazing, for coming up with that treatment of Eric Carmen's song. I didn't realize Celine had already blown it out the roof, and London was copying her.

As long as you capture some of the emotion of the song, I don't mind the bigger treatment. I have been listening to Kimberley Locke's "Over the Rainbow," from her first album, and I like the rebelliousness of it.

I realize you were likely not saying you dislike nonAmericans for some inherent flaw they have, but that you think the contestants should only be natural-born Americans because it's in the name of the show.

I submit that the producers could have called it "The search for the next superstar" or some such, which was indeed the subtitle of the show when it first came on. Just because they arbitrarily and unnecessarily included "American" in the title does not mean we have to buy into the notion that it is a relevant factor.

Well, no. Ms. Creamcheese may have been symbolic of a "career goal" at one time, but I was a bit young for her in her heyday.

Well, I was very close nailing the foursome. Two spot on and the other two barely escaped. No big surprises although I though it was a bit early for Alexandrea to go. I thought there were others that should have gone before her.

The guys were no surprise. I am bummed at the loss of Alexandrea, and surprised at the ouster of Alaina. To her credit, so was Kady. When they were down to pairs, I picked the wrong half of the pair both times. I'm guessing people had as much trouble telling all the blondes apart as I did....
