Wowsers

God has a razor sharp sense of humor-really.

Last year we were nine months into a dreadful drought, fearing the possibility of wildfires.

Today we're under flood alerts. Our own rain gauge in the backyard only goes to 5 inches and before last night had maybe 1/2 inch of water in it.

Some streets are becoming impassable, haven't had a chance to check out the rest of the Houston area. I know earlier this morning Spring Creek at Kuykendahl had 7 inches in a few hours.

And it's just roiling around the same areas over and over and over. Some places over 1 inch per hour.

Still better than the drought, though.

Sadly, massive rain amounts are not much better than droughts, as the water does not soak into the ground (hence the reason for the flash floods). Getting lots of rain as a "respite" to a drought does very little good (or so I have been told).

I figure I'm better at swimming than firewalking, though!

You're right, however. Our ground has been saturated from previous rains over the past few weeks and it has no where to go.

Oh man. I didn't mean to bring up bad memories. We had over 7 inches here in The Woodlands. Other places around had quite a lot more. We're supposed to have a reprise either tonight or tomorrow and into Saturday.Yikes.

We've had about three inches in the past few days. It was long overdue. We need a lot more.
