One of the news stories that I saw said that the guy is actually a Republican, but plans to vote Democratic. How screwy. It's probably a Republican plot: the stabber is probably an undercover Republican operative, he planned to vote in the primary for the Democrat that he thinks will be most vulnerable to the Republican candidate in the general election, and he stabbed the stabbee in order to ensure that the weaker candidate wins the primary.

Here in the Commonwealth, we have an interesting ongoing contretemps in the Democratic primary in Chesterfield County (in Virginia, the cities are independent of the counties; Henrico County, whereinwhichat I reside, wraps around the city of Richmond on the north side, and Chesterfied County, which lies south of The Rivuh, wraps around the city of Richmond on the south side; visually, imagine the two counties as the toilet seat, and the city as the spot you aim for). Where was I... oh, yes. The Democratic primary. ANYway, the state board of elections is ticked at Chesterfield County, because in the recent primary the number of Democratic votes that they counted was greater than the number of voters (this is not a factor of Republicans voting in the Democratic primary-- the local Democrats actually reported more voters for Hillary and Obama, separately, than, well, the total number of voters that they reported for the two combined). The other problem is that they ran out of ballots, and offered people pieces of notebook paper, napkins, sample ballots, etc., to write on, which is illegal; those votes won't be counted, but that won't affect the outcome, since there are only about 200 votes involved (well, maybe it's 2,000 votes, or 200,000, who knows, the same people who counted those votes are the ones who counted all the other stuff), and Obama won by about a 2:1 majority. I'm sure it is somehow the fault of the Republicans (just like it was the fault of the Republicans that the Democratic-designed butterfly ballot in West Palm Beach in 2000 confused so many Democratic voters, who accidentally voted for Pat Buchanan, thus handing the election to Bush).

Oh, and as for counting... This reminds me, a lot of people criticize the position of the One True Church on birth control, in particular, its insistence that the rhythm method of birth control is the only one that can be used (unless you are a deviate priest, in which case it is apparently OK for you to use teen age boys as your method of birth control), but actually, the rhythm method is really quite effective: the problem is that Catholic girls can't count to 28.

It wouldn't work -- you can't cross party lines in the PA primary!

I found that out yers ago when I was a new-ish voter (maybe 19 or 20 years old.) There was a Repub running for City Council whom I knew & admired, and I thought I'd give him my "vote of confidence" even though I knew he had about the chance of a Popsicle in Hades of winning in November. I was kinda miffed when the pink lever wouldn't move, and I called the poll worker over to tell her it was "broken." She had to explain that as a Registered Dem I couldn't vote for him in the Primary -- although I could certainly vote for him in the general election. Or, I could write him in for the primary -- which I did

Of course he still lost in November!

Maybe he planned to write her in????

Oh well, if stabber's not a felon yet, he can probably still vote. And since stabee is still alive, HE can still vote (absentee if he's not yet recovered from his injury by April 24.) So they'll cancel each other out.

The rhythm method was so good for my parents that they were going to name my sister Melody.

My older sister is a product of the rhythm method.
