A hot, hot day in NYC

It was a record-setting day, hitting 97 this afternoon. And it felt that much hotter, when I was wearing a dress shirt and tie for my Jeopardy! audition.
Since I was going to be in the city, anyway, I had scheduled another WWTBAM audition for the evening. They worried me a bit, by reading my number last among the list of written test passers.
And then...
I advanced to the videotaped audition.

Hot and sweaty, but not a bad day!

Yay Marley!
Maybe not having me with you was a good luck charm!
Now we get to see what happens if you get both calls!

Too much to hope for, but after all these years of trying out, that would be an ironic anecdote in itself.
Let's make yesterday a True Daily Double, Alex!

So, if the choice presented itself, would it be Alex or Mere?
It would be deliciously ironic were you to get a chance to tell WWTBAM "No!" for a change....

I'd still
rather be on WWTBAM (first) but it's one of those moral dilemmas. If J! calls first and I've accepted their tape date offer, it'll have to be first come-first served.

That
would be a bonus in the situation, wouldn't it?

I think J! will continue to be around long after BAM is gone so I would probably go for BAM first, if there was a choice. Although whether I ever get enough answers right on the J! test will be another story entirely.
So more details on both? How did you feel you did in the J! audition?

If you go only by the expected value of appearing on each show, I'm pretty sure the average WWTBAM contestant wins more than the average J contestant. I'd much rather win a million on Jeopardy than on WWTBAM, but it's not as likely.

Way cool Marley!!! Some of the best news I have read on this site lately.
Was it a nice blue dress shirt?
Seeing the rest of the thread, I would wait for WWTBAM to call and try again on Jeopardy. But, it should be noted I cannot pass the Jeopardy test.

Hey, I've learned
some lessons over the years!
It was a beige shirt, with
this new tie (which related to one of my new anecdotes, although I didn't draw specific attention to the tie-in).
At the J! audition, I was holding the middle ground, as far a dress code went. I left the jacket at home, when I heard the forecast. There were guys in suits (mostly lawyers, I think) but I think all the other men wore open-collared shirts without the tie. Well, one guy was dressed casually, with a sweater that looked really heavy for the forecast!

Of course, they're never going to extend an invitation
simultaneously. So, if J! calls first, am I going to respond with "let me think about it for a while"? Of course not! It'll be "when do you want me to hop on a plane?" The moral dilemma would arise if WWTBAM called
after I accepted a J! offer. Would I (or would any of you) call J! back and cancel their scheduled appearance "because I've got a better offer"? I couldn't do that.
Where's our Bored historian? Didn't we have at least one BB who actually did have that situation? Or am I remembering a hypothetical discussion?
christie1111 wrote:So more details on both? How did you feel you did in the J! audition?
I won't go into details, but I think it went reasonable well. I followed instructions, remembered to answer in the form of a question and immediately select a new category, etc. It was actually kind of scary realizing how many questions I didn't know while I was standing there and having to "stay clam". Of course, there were a few NYC-centric questions that really gave the locals a home field advantage.

I think I would rather be on J! because it is a much better game show than the current BAM. There seems to be less pressure on J! contestants, probably because they don't have to ring in if they don't know the answer and because a wrong answer does not knock them out of the game. But on BAM if you use your lifelines properly and get through the first ten questions you would win about as much money as a three-time J! champ.
I wouldn't say try for one now and the other later because that chance might not come again. I'd rather be on J! but if I accepted BAM and then got the call from J! it would be a tough decision.

Less pressure on J! contestants? How about those other two contestants competing against you and the buzzer timing issue?
Most J! contestants leave with a consolation prize.

From the transcripts I've read, the same could be said for 'BAM these days.
