What is this world coming to and how can these things be stopped?

The web site for Newsday, the LI daily newspaper, describes an "armed perpetrator" with a handgun, but doesn't say whether he used it. The alert went out at 2:10 and the story was posted at 3:00.
I am about 25% sure of this.

WCBS reports the "all clear" has been announced at Stony Brook. No word yet on what, if anything, happened.
I am about 25% sure of this.

I saw this story in the airport arriving at Memphis. Glad since I know people there that nobody was hurt.
