I would have said C because I've known several Smokeys and Bandits. The only Beast I've ever heard of is LB's namesake.

In 1846, the idea that America had a "manifest destiny" to expand its borders led to war with what nation?
A. France B. Mexico
C. Canada D. England

Ana figured it had to be a country around America and she has never heard of anything with Canada
Answer and value
B. Mexico (Mere then said it was the Mexican-American War)
Value: $3000
Bank: $18000
Good reasoning: "expand its borders" suggests a country near the U.S. Actually, some battles of the War of 1812 were in Canada (a British possession back then), and before that, the U.S. peacefully acquired French land, so they were all good distractors.

Wow! Rich's appearance actually got mentioned in a NY Daily News column! They have New York contestants all the time and they almost never get any press.

There's a line about the start of auditions, too.

The following blurb about Joe Franklin has a trivia tie-in too: My former NTN teammate Rudy used him as the "author" of an NTN trivia book.

Can you provide the link you used? I attempted to look it up and found many different lists from different years. The question didn't specify what year they were referring to, and the lists I saw changed quite a bit from year to year. I saw one where "Bandit" was #38. The question also didn't specify whether they were talking about just the pets that were newly named in the most recent year, or the cumulative inventory of still-living pets, regardless of age. I found one list that said "Bella" was #1. From what I could tell, this was not a good question with a single clear answer.
