I might well have crashed and burned on this one. I know that "mile" comes from mille paseuum or 1000 paces. Thus 10,000 steps would be 10 miles. But wait - a step is more like 2 feet (or possibly 3), so cut that figure in half, making the answer 5 miles.

Adam made it a point to note that several of these men were British. However just because their nationality was British would not necessarily mean that they were British spies - they could have been spying for another country (such as Kim Philby, who was British but was a Russian spy).
