Mad About You?????????? WTF?????????
I still remember hearing that even though they consistently rated in the 20's or 30's, St. Elsewhere lasted as long as it did because a lot of their viewers were intelligent people who watched no other scripted TV.
That show was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY smarter than MAY.
I will stop cringing soon. However, let's hear it for Jeopardy!!!!!

I liked Mad About You.
Until it jumped the shark.
But...........
It doesn't belong on this list.

"Mad About You"?! Are they F-in' kidding me?!
Decent show, yes. Smart show, hell no.
I'd sooner put "Law & Order" or "NUMB3RS" on this list than "MAY"

Where's Gilligan's Island?
It's the only show I know of that had a genuine professor in the cast.

The professor couldn't get them off the island. The show is probably being penalized for that fact.

One of the things that we're holidng -- and probably won't release for quite awhile -- is the rights to the the back story of that show.
If y'all won't tell anybody, I'll give you this much.
The so-called professor knew damned well how to get off the island, but also was smart enough to know that he'd
never have as good of a nookie situation.
The debate about whether you'd rather ball Mary Anne or Ginger never crossed his mind. All he had to consider was how many students he might end up getting lucky with, and comparing that to what he had right there.
He had no competition. The Skipper and his "little buddy" and the Howes had their own things going, you know.
Can't reveal any more than that now, except to say: They were all cool with staying on the island.
Dick Cavett told a story about having an idea about a show: "a funny Gilligan's Island." Can't remember the details, though.

So what criteria did they use for making this determination? I would agree with most of their picks but the last two...despite my being a M*A*S*H fan, I can't believe that it represents "intelligent" television, particularly the early seasons. As for Mad About You, it had its moments, but again doesn't strike me as "intelligent" television.
