My portions of toothpaste are smaller and far less telegenic. I wonder which company ended up with a trademark on the nurdle?

I'm familiar with the German version of the word, treppenwitz, and I've used that to describe my many unimpressive auditions with the APs.

Ouch. They did start on the Mississippi, but that wasn't the territory they were sent to explore.

One of those things I should know but don't. Probably a dozen BBs could answer this without waiting for the choices.

Technically, they started on the Missouri in St. Charles MO - if I'm not mistaken. I don't think the expedition once it really got underway (not counting the prep-work and travel to St. Louis) was ever on the Mississippi.

Okay, they started out as much as three or four miles away from the Mississippi. But my point is that their starting place was "civilized territory" and there wouldn't have been a need to leave their mark there.

First off, who ever heard of "nurdles"? Second, why would this be a legal matter? Third, which product is likely to have "wave-shaped single portions"?

Well, "amuse-bouche" is food, "fait accompli" is "accomplished fact" and as for D, it's some sort of table. Since "escalier" looks like "escalator", I'll go with that as my final answer.

Well, it's certainly not the Colorado or Susquehanna (both would have been off the route). Surely they would have been much further along than the Mississippi by that date, so it has to be the Yellowstone.

Okay, I looked it up.

http://blogs.reuters.com/shop-talk/2010 ... -the-word/
For those who don’t know, a nurdle — a wave-like gob of toothpaste applied on a toothbrush — is at the center of a trademark lawsuit filed by consumer product company Colgate-Palmolive against rival GlaxoSmithKline.

Colgate sued Glaxo, which owns the Aquafresh brand, seeking a court order that its packaging for Colgate toothpaste does not infringe trademarks held by Glaxo, which had filed a trademark application for the nurdle design.
I don't know if the lawsuit has been resolved, yet. Clearly, there's a lot riding on this!
