Idol Chatter - 2/20/08 - The Girls

After the first couple of girls sang tonight, I thought it was going to be a long night. Let's just say I was unimpressed. But then, Amanda took the stage and cranked it up. I liked her rendition of Baby, Please Don't Go even though Simon didn't get it. I thought she looked right at home with that one. But, the best was yet to come. I thought Alexandrea killed with Spinning Wheel only to follow by Ramiele doing justice to one of my favorite songs of the 60's in Dusty Springfield's You Don't have to Say You Love me and Syesha with Tobacco Road. All great choices for each of them, IMHO. I was waiting to hear a blow-me-away type song from Carly as a closer, not a slow number like she did. Although she sang it fine, I found it a bit boring. The other numbers were, for me, forgettable.
Again, song choice is paramount here as many of the girls voices are on the same plane. But, like last year, it looks like there are definitely two tiers here. And, it's really too early to tell if it will stay that way but after this first week I see four or five in the top tier and the others in the second tier.
Tough call as to who I think will be dismissed but I will go with Christy and Brooke. I could be way wrong but those would be my picks based on their selections and performances tonight.
