Obama's speech last night.

I caught parts of it. I could have sworn that I heard a couple of times somebody say that there were no teleprompters.

If any of you can help me settle an argument about that, I'd appreciate it.

MSNBC said that there were no teleprompters used. I did see him referring to some note cards now and then. I think he spoke about 30 minutes longer than his audience could handle.

I saw a few news reports that said Obama spoke with a TelePrompter.

I don't have the links.

I was at a hockey viewing party last night put on by the Houston Aeros, the minor league team in town. Some of the Aeros players showed up after attending the speech. They didn't have tickets but got in through the locker room entrance. They said it was a good speech and would consider voting for Obama.

Except that they were all Canadian.

The Czech, Slovak, and Russian players didn't come to the party so we don't know what they thought. The U.S. players mostly did not go to the speech.

Why should he need a teleprompter? He says the same empty sentences over and over again. You would think, by now, he would have it all committed to memory.

"It's time for a change in this country. Washington needs a change. And, between you and me, we can make that change. The people of this great country can show Washington that changes can be made. We don't need the same tired people running Washington. We need to step out of the past and into the future." Yada, yada, yada.

I think that about covers the depth and context of his speeches.

"My friends, no we can't. We're staying in Iraq for at least 100 more years. I'm tired, my friends. And I'm going to sleep now."

One hears what one wants. Here's what I hear when listening to McCain:

One hears what is actually spoken. One needs only to listen.

And, which is why McCain needs to select a good, strong conservative as his running mate so that when his time expires, the VP can step in and run the country properly. Not like the tax and spend liberals that both Clinton and Obama represent.
