Stoopid Jericho thread

#1 Post by MarleysGh0st » Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:14 am

Spoiler
So now they're explaining why the conspirators launched the attack. They're right wing fanatics who want to rewrite the history of the country. Feh. It still seems like the infrastructure has been restored way too quickly.

I'm surprised that Hawkins' teammate stayed loyal; but, of course, they hustle him right out of the show so that he doesn't distract us from the stars.

And good ol' Jake--they might force him to become sheriff, but nobody's going to make him shave that seven-day stubble! :P

Can anyone see Mayor Anderson becoming a hero at the constitutional convention?

Okay. Anyone else watch last night?

Oh, and one more thing:
Spoiler
TPTB aren't even trying to avoid filming any of that hilly, southern California terrain that doesn't look a bit like Kansas, any more.

It reminds me of how The Wonder Years, which is supposed to take place on LI, but has palm trees in the distant background.

The show is really moving at a hundred MPH.
haven't decided whether I'm enjoying it or not.
Enjoy every sandwich

No, but it's on my DVR and I'll probably watch it this evening.

Well- the part of Kansas where Jericho is located, that is.

Lots of hills in the eastern part of the state, near Lawrence.

But yes- the western part is a nice, smooth ramp to the Rocky Mountains.

So....

We got:

Hawkins - both of them in on it now. Did Jake give the guy keys to the handcuffs. Does that guy know he did that and does Jake know he knows?

Gray or is it Grey? - Do we really think this weenie man can make waves in Cheyenne? It's like having me buy that Eric grew a set as well.

Ravenwood - They are back!

I kinda like this "let's get Texas to side with us" thing.

Yes, Jake must have slipped him the key while throwing that punch. The Army colonel has a pretty strong hunch that's what happened, although he may not be able to prove it.

OK, now that I've seen the episode, here are my comments...

1. I find it hard to believe that a "nation" that has just gone through a nuclear disaster is already together enough to be able to publish high-quality history textbooks in quantities sufficient to make them available for small backwater towns like Jericho.

2. UN peacekeepers on the Mississippi? Hudson River virus? I wonder if these are things that would have been part of the regular season had the show not been cancelled and then revived. The episodes seem "telescoped" to me.

3. There are a lot of stories in Jericho that have been left hanging, such as the boy with the grocery store and his girlfriend, the girl who ran the tavern (Eric's paramour, IIRC), Jake's other girlfriend, etc. Again, this is probably the result of having to collapse the season into 7 episodes.

4. I find it hard to believe that a reporter who claims 2 Pulitzers would be stupid enough to use a government-regulated phone, especially after Jake warned him not to do so. I figured, though, that he wouldn't be long for this world.

5. Does Jake do magic tricks at parties? I figure that that's the reason for the physical confrontation with Chavez - to pass the handcuff keys to him.

6. Once again we get a hint of what Jake was up to in the pre-bomb days ("Do you know what's in my file?"). Perhaps there was more explanation but I can't remember what it was.

7. I doubt that Gray Anderson will raise much of a fuss at the Constitutional convention - and I agree with Eric that this seems highly irregular. It seems to me that Cheyenne should be claiming to be the successor of the United States, not forming a new rump state.

8. I'm still wondering if there's some connection between the choice of Columbus as the seat of the "remnants of the Federal government" and Hawkins' assignment (his bomb was supposed to go there).

All part of discounting the actual impact of the attack. We saw the Chinese dropping relief supplies into Jericho in the first season. Presumably other countries were helping, too. And then with several factions fighting it out, now reduced to the three factions left, the situation with the international presence would have to be very confused!

And why would a virus arise from the Hudson River valley, of all places, since they stopped the bomb that was targetted for NY?

They don't make Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters like they used to.

Or conspirators, for that matter. Why would they keep files documenting the bomb sources on those computers, if it was such a big secret?

It's a convenient coincidence, I suppose. They said there were 26 cities hit by bombs? Did they ever disclose a complete list of those, aside from a few passing images of Hawkins' map with the pins in them? Columbus might just be as likely an untouched eastern city as any.

Seems to me that the Chinese relief would be a good argument against believing the "official story" about North Korea's involvement - I doubt that the Chinese would be so generous after we nuked a country right on their border. And what about the Middle East? If we nuked Iran I can't imagine the impact that would have on petroleum supplies (not to mention the loss of refining capacity and shipping capacity implied by the destruction).

Let's see - they have named Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles (and presumably San Francisco since the Modesto Bee is the 2nd largest newspaper in California) and Dallas. I can't remember if any others have been specifically identified, nor can I remember what was on Hawkins' map.

Ha!

I may have solved the "what's the mother doing leaving town?" question.

I saw the first episode of Eli Stone this morning. Seems she is the mom on that show.

If Eli Stone gets cancelled, she can come back from whatever territory they have sent her to.

Thanks for that. I figured it was a cost-saving move not to have the actor come back.
