Idol Chatter - 2/19/08 - The Guys

This could be a very interesting season; and we haven't even seen the girls yet! I only saw 2 or 3 performances I did not like. And, that was probably due to just poor song choices. I think all of the guys have decent voices; some more decent than others. So, it will be up to the guys with the less decent voices to bring it up a notch and pick great songs.
Without going into utter detail over each guy I will just say that my favorite three performances of the night were my pick to win it all - David Archuleta, Robbie and Jason Castro. Although I did like Robbie Colton but not quite as much as the top two. The ones I did not like were Garrett (the Peter Frampton look-alike), the other Jason and Luke. Their song choices and/or performances bored me and that's not what you want to do on opening night. I also did not care for Michael's rendition of Light My Fire. I thought he had a couple of pitch problems but the judges didn't mention them. The other performances were midlle of the packish and I want to see more of.
I thought Danny Noriega also suffered from a poor song choice and poor performance. To me, he sounded like he could not keep up with the band's tempo. It sounded as if he was always a little behind the music. But, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and wait to hear him next week. I think he is better than that.
My selections for castoffs are Jason Yeager and Garrett.

Overall I see we didn't differ too much in our reactions.

Was it my imagination, or were there only 10 girls sitting beside the stage? I didn't see Irish Chick, f'rinstance.

I've still got a couple of singers to get through, but that never stopped me yet from giving an opinion.
I'm obviously in the minority, but I thought David, Colton, and Garrett all will be much better singers when their voices break. David, especially, just sounded so off to me. And Danny's attitude was just so...ridiculous.
Luke needs to sing something - ANYTHING - that isn't falsetto. I've said it before, I'll say it again, there's a whole lotta notes that are actually in a range that the human ear can hear, rather than just the dog. I'm being completely serious that when he was singing, my cat actually looked up to see what the noise was.
My personal favorite was Robbie, but admittedly I'm more of a fan of his style of music than all of the others I've seen so far, although I just saw Jason Castro, and really liked his performance.

The girls and I voted for #3, David Cook, #5, Robbie Carrico, and #11. Jason Castro We are impressed with hotness of #12, Michael, but didn't vote for him.

Well, I didn't count wrong. I didn't notice until about 3/4 of the way through the show that there weren't 12, and when I counted, the second girl had left.

Maybe they weren't there because they were sick.
