I'm just not understanding this Bored any more

Folks can post nasty, ugly, mean-spirited things about each other's political beliefs and morals and they are fully accepted here.

I post a few associated thoughts about a corporate entity I think is engaging in underhanded practices and I get mocked and beaten up.

I post a lot of upbeat stuff about my kids and how well they're doing, but if I dare to post something critical about just about anything I get counseled for being too depressed and angry.

I don't use Merry Men to make my points--I believe in standing behind my thoughts.

Honestly don't know what I'm doing that's so wrong and different as opposed to many others here, but evidently I am.

Really--people are upset I attacked Macys? People are upset I used multiple threads because I had a lot to say about it?

I'd welcome a list of acceptable posting topics.

Sorry if I've annoyed too many folks. Honestly. Very surprised by the reaction to what posted. Stopping now.

Of course, I'm sure some clever soul will point to this thread and say "see, we told you so, something's wrong with him."

I just read through the threads and saw people pointing out flaws in your arguments, or siding with you. The MM seemed to be making fun of Macy's, not you.

And it all would have fit nicely into one thread.

People disagree with me all the time but I don't take it personally.

Wondering if RH Macy kicked me in the nads? And...people apparently agreeing with that sentiment?

Honestly, I sometimes feel like I'm suffering from Gerald Ford syndrome here--everything I do is seen through a preordained prism regardless of intent. Ford was an athlete, Yale law grad...but once Chevy Chase came along, everyone saw him as a, to coin a phrase, stumblebum.

Wondering if he rose from the grave? And you took it seriously? It's like asking if he peed in your Wheaties. A figure of speech.

It means, "Wow--he's really pissed! I wonder what happened to him?"

You're making my point for me--of course I understood it was a figure of speech (albeit a nasty one)...nothing happened to me. I got angry at what I perceived to be injustice and said why. Again, what is wrong with that?

The only people here who can't be "mocked or beaten up" (myself included) are those who don't post enough to leave themselves open to it....

I for one thought your series yesterday was hilarious (Yes, I know, not what you intended for a reaction) and one of the best things on the Bored in a while. Yes, I had some fun with it... because like it or not, you left yourself wide open (And having only worked in retail for 14 years, I couldn't help but get a kick out of some of these observations you just discovered).

Regardless of how you feel the Bored may think of you, and even with your recent spike in posting about whatever's on your mind, you are nowhere near BobJuch territory yet (I quit responding to his links to nasty Mecca articles after about the 3471289433rd one). You also, whether I agree with what you think or not, post genuinely from your heart... and that I can most certainly respect....

Carry on...

Nothing's wrong with that.

But can you really not see that if you get angry enough to start five threads on the subject, people are naturally going to assume you had a really bad experience with the subject of your anger?

Especially since, as you have noted, you usually don't make threads like this?

It really is nothing more than that- I've read all the threads, and don't see that anyone was being really hard on you, except maybe for putting each of the subjects into a different thread.

Oh, wah, wah, wah. Can I nominate this as the whiniest thread of 2012 so far? The only thing in this world more annoying than a whiny woman is a whiny man. Post whateve you want.........just don't expect everyone to agree with you as if they're married to you.

Dear Buffacuse,

My chiming in on the "what's gotten into Buff" thread was precisely because it was so anti-Buff as you describe in your opening post in this thread.

Normally, by my observations, you write pithy, generally upbeat, or very targeted if not upbeat, posts on the subject at hand.

It is rare, by my observations, for you to go on a full-court, take no prisoners tear like your multi-Macy threads.

I was/am not against those threads, I was just surprised by them. Hence, my thinking and agreeing with the "What did Macy's do to Buffacuse?"

I didn't/don't think you can't write whatever you want; just that this multi-front tangent was uncharacteristic

And, in my opinion, if the Bored can't take a joke (or multiple threads)...

Well, I chose to not continue reading them after the 3rd one because I don't shop at Macy's.

Anyone else could have done the same.

Post whatever you want Buff. They can chose to read or not, comment or not.

In the case of BobJ, it just seems he is trying out new themes for his 'scriptwriting' so it doesn't ring true with me. Especially since none of his outrageous stuff ever makes the newspapers. Not the kidnapping and prositution ring or recent police invasion gets even a mention in the local papers. Seems to me if these things actually happened they would be all over these.

There is a web site that totally agrees with you about Macy's. They welcome opinions like yours.

Yes, sometimes people post things that aren't nice and sometimes the "humor" gets lost and appears nasty. I posted a few (ok, several topics ) regarding Michigan probate and I tried to take the negative things as helpful points. If people want to post negative things don't take it personally.

The prostitution ring did make the Minneapolis newspaper. The police "invasion" didn't as there was nothing to draw the attention of the press. When she files the lawsuit (if she does) it will make the papers for sure.

Take off your rose-colored glasses, this suff does happen and did happen.

Some very thoughtful responses here that I genuinely appreciate--we all need perspective some times--I perhaps more than most.

Thank you.

I don't think it was counseling as much as curiosity. Usually, someone who posts something negative about a business has had a bad experience with the business, especially if they start five or six separate threads in the span of an hour. Most of the comments in the thread agreed with you, albeit with some of the usual political sniping about who is to bear the blame for reckless credit card spending.

I took an entire marketing course in customer psychology, which essentially is designed to teach businesses, especially retailers, how to get people to spend as much of their money as possible, so little you said came as a surprise to me, but it was interesting and I tried to elaborate on some of the points from my own experiences as well.

And it was different, and it did enliven the Bored for a day and lead to the creation of a new MM who might well have a long lifespan (I've always said my goal in life, once I figure out how to make my avatar, is to have my own MM).

I was certainly not attacking you or defending Macy's. Just didn't understand the complaint about a 20% discount and the 21% APR. Your complaint made it seem like there was no actual discount when, in fact, there is. Even if Macy's only charged 10% APR a customer could eventually eat up the discount if they don't pay down the balance.

I heartily agree that it is bad for Macy's to have their employees push their credit cards without clearly explaining the rates and other issues.

OK - I have finally gotten through the Macy's threads.

My thoughts:

I agree with flybrick. The initial post(s) were so unlike your normal posting that it made some people wonder.

OK. This is the second time I have agreed with flybrick in a day (nay, a morning!). AND I agree with flock in the Gabby Giffords thread!

OMG, the sky is falling, the sky is falling.

But, I digress.

I thought, as a rant, it pretty well summed things up.

I try to stay away from using department store credit cards because of the interest traps.

I really do love getting gift cards back when it's the cheaper-at-the-other-store scenario. Even though I KNOW it's a ploy to get me in there and shop more. I know it but I don't care.

We tend to shop at Boscov's, a local department store, more than any other. Most of the time, actually.

I will run into our local Macy's when women's clothing is on sale-of-sale-of-sale to see if I can pick up something. But, since I am downsizing clothing and such, that's been infrequent, too.

In closing...Buff, it's OK. Really.

Now save up your pennies for that orange Hummer, 'K?

Edited to add one more thing: What a cheesy flipping way to let people know their services are no longer needed.

I thought it sweet that you've made it this far through life and are just figuring all this stuff out. God bless you. You could have, however, used "[insert name of large department store here]." Are we ever going to learn what set you off?

For the record, if we're disclosing our relationships with Macy's, when our local (well, kinda, at the mall 25 miles away) department store was taken over by Macy's, things improved. When Marshall Field's in downtown Chicago was taken over by Macy's, it was a cultural horror.* When the Water Tower Place Field's was taken over by Macy's, meh. Anyway. Who needs Macy's? If I can't get it at the local supermarket or Ace Hardware in town, at Costco, or at amazon.com, it doesn't exist.

*During the transition there was much talk about boycotting Macy's, but, uh, those people who once were Field's employees and became Macy's employees did not become our enemies and still need their jobs, and if we all stop shopping there, and they close the store, where are they going to work?
