Boo-hiss on you getting spoiled out of the winning podium on the last clue of the game.

Yes, a big argh, but Dave was a worthy opponent. That last answer was a most excellent get. I think Dave surprised even himself. I was clueless. My other favorite get was "optimum" by another player earlier in the game. I was impressed with that. The other big argh was that I would have had the final puzzle in a snap.

This show (Crosswords) suffers from a game-show split personality:
Spoiler
On the one hand, they seem to want contestants who can really do crossword puzzles (the audition test was quite difficult, in my opinion) and are fast. So it is a bit like JEOPARDY! and primetime WWTBAM, in that the contestants' merit ought to be rewarded.
But, on the other hand, just a little bit of bad luck can screw over the strongest player. On the current "no ability required" shows (e.g., DOND), however, the potential reward is much higher.
Anyway, Catfish, you were a dominant force in the game, and it sucks that you were ousted at the last moment. And, of course, it was one of those "trick" questions seen in some crossword puzzles that might take a person several seconds to figure out

TPTB may think their rules add "excitement" to the game, but from a contestant's viewpoint, they just suck.
You were great, Catfish!

Thanks, everyone.
Spoiler
Being well aware of the rules going in, I was able to take the outcome in stride. Dave was one of the few people I got to chat with before the taping started (ours was the first show of the day). He was a nice guy, and I don't begrudge him the win. I only wish he had completed the puzzle, which I would have with time to spare.
Even though the rules are hinky, it's a fun show, and the people are lovely.
And remember: I went in a winner---of a trip to LA and a one-night stay at the Beverly Garland (yes, that Beverly Garland, about whom I now know a great deal thanks to the continuous loop bio on the hotel TV) Holiday Inn. I was one of the 50 chosen for this Major Award as the result of the Chicago auditions.
