Happy Monday!
An oxymoron? No. (Although I have likely been referred to as an oxy moron at some point...but I digress...)
I am off work today. And it has nothing to do with Washington, Bush, or any of the others in between who "got a view from the White House loo of Pennsylvania Avenue"...
For the first time since early last summer, I have my "weekend" (Sunday/Monday) off once again. Yeppers. Two blessed days off back-to-back on a regularly scheduled, weekly basis. Now, in my nearly four years with this outfit, I have worked six days a week more often than not. But this last stretch has been particularly brutal. A ten-hour day was an easy day and twelve-hour days were not unheard of. Beyond the hours, the workload that was packed into those 60-to-65 hour weeks bordered on the sadistic. I was pretty much used to fill in whatever holes opened up, bouncing from field tech supervisor to temporary admin to warehouse manager - sometimes carrying all three at once. Ponder, if you would, the fact that our location manager had a mild stroke during this stretch and that the manager of the next territory to ours had two undetected heart attacks, and you will hopefully understand how grateful I am to have made it through this relatively unscathed.
Still, I have no doubts that the last few months have taken a toll on my mind, my body and my spirit. And things are by no means easy at work even now...but the workload has fallen from ludicrous to merely "highly challenging". Nevertheless, two days off a week and a schedule that comes in just below fifty hours is very much a blessing here.
I plan on celebrating by catching up on things that I have put off for far too long - things both responsible and frivolous.
Next Monday, that is. Today, OTOH, will be dedicated to sweet, glorious sloth. Unapologetically.
