Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I do. GW could have, but can take it on another day so has gone in. She's saving up for likely needed time off nearer the wedding.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I am at work.

Kiddiewinkies are working at a vacation camp. They earn volunteer hours for the time they spend there. Daughter1111 has so many volunteer hours she is swimming in them. But she may be eligible for a scholarship due the the large number.

I'm always just a little "off."

But I'm never not working.

My day started at 5:15 when the thunderstorms came through. But I got to go back to bed after "mommy hold me", since she wanted to sleep in my bed. Reasonable request at age three with a vicious storm...

So what is a volunteer hour good for, aside from a possible scholarship? Is this camp a charitable operation to which one would want to volunteer time?

I've never had Presidents Day off as a paid holiday in any job.

Today, I don't have to go to work, but I will get to put many miles on my car. Annie goes to visit her veterinary surgeon in far north OKC this afternoon, where the vet will join me in oohing and ahing over how much more the dog has healed in the past two weeks. After I bring Annie home, I will turn around and drive back to downtown OKC for Gridiron dress rehearsal. (Note to self: buy gas this morning.)

I hate driving on I-35, but I do love the places it takes me.

Well, the high school requires a small number for graduation. But Kids1111 have already exceeded that and Son1111 hasn't even started high school yet.

Camp is a United Way agency camp but Kids1111 have been going there for summers for years. Best day camp for summer in the area. Daughter1111 became a Counselor in Training as soon as she was able to and Son1111 will do that this summer. Daughert1111 probably will get a summer job so she can get paid.

Basically a way to be occupied over the summer while reaping some benefit.

This is the first time when I've been working in private business when I've had the day off. I was a bit surprised that my office takes today off and not MLK day, but I think they want to break up that long stretch between New Years and Memorial Day with no holiday.

Yup. Same as at my oldest son's school. Six hours a year in middle school and 9 per in high school.

Which would be good for some of the spoiled rotten rich kids there, but most of the kids I know are good ones and don't mind the requirements...

Much of it is under construction. Much of the rest needs repairs or redesign. In short, throughout the metro area, the highway carries too much traffic on too few lanes, with some badly designed entrance ramps that that add unnecessary risks to every vehicle in those areas. Of course, there always are some drivers who shouldn't be on anybody's roads at any time and especially at 70 mph.

George Washington's Birthday means the courthouse is closed today. (George Washington's Birthday is the official federal holiday not President's Day)

But, as usual, I'm here at work. Just in case.

But I will get 8 hours of comp so effectively it is a paid holiday for me, I'll just be celebrating it on Thursday morning and sometime in early March.

I've been here for an hour and have seen or spoken to no other humans.

I scheduled Jeff to be off today, so it's not really a paid holiday.

How many hours is she required to volunteer to graduate? Maddie has to do 40, but I have heard that colleges want to see about 100.

She hasn't done any yet because she is so busy. I think that she is going to start in the summer, after she takes her summer school class.

Regular work day for me. Of course, I don't wander in until 10:30 or so.
I'll get dressed soon and head that way.

Used to get the day off. Guess the state of AZ only can afford a set number of holidays off. When we got MLK day off, President's Day became a working day. :?
