Happy Birthday, Bix!

It's a well-known scientific fact that birthday cake calories do not count. :)

Especially if you eat the cake while drinking a Diet Coke.

Or.... if you eat it standing up.

That is, while you are standing up.

Not the cake standing up.

Happy Birthday, and what they said.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Thanks!

We are going to my s-i-l's house tonight for dinner. I have the same birthdate as my niece.

Unfortunately, I have a bit of a migraine today. But I was able to take a nap and I think the medicine is kicking in.

The bestest news of the day is that Jackson won a prize for his Boy Scout derby car today. His car wasn't the fastest, but he did win two out of three heats. He won the award for most pack spirit. He painted everything himself and put decals of their pack number on his car. That boy loves winning trophies more than anyone I know, so it makes me happy when he wins. It's nice that he got something, because a lot of times it appears the parents do more work on the cars than the kiddos.

My m-i-l rocks. She already gave me my present--massages from the best massage lady in town.

The husband never knows what to get me. Eventually, I decided that I would like a nice pair of black cowboy boots. Really comfortable ones I can just dress up blue jeans with and wear running errands and feel cool in and less slobby. I have some western boots of all different colors that I wear to Texans games, but I bought those puppies off of ebay and they aren't terribly sane to wear as normal boots.

I eat everything without feeling guilty. Guilt should be saved for things like not being good at decluttering.

We had three cakes last night. A chocolate, a white cake, and a carrot cake.

The chocolate cake was mine, the white cake was ours and the carrot cake was my nieces.

New rule. No number candles on the cake. For some reason, seeing number candles on the cake is semi-traumatizing.

But it's less of a fire hazard than having an accurate number of individual candles! :P

Guilt is overrated and keeps one from acting.

Try that one on for size.

Really.

Hey that's a good one. Thanks for the present. :D

I unshelved all my I have kept but probably will never read again and took them to Half Price Books. The big cool one. They gave me a credit of $40.

Then I bought fewer things but stuff I will use:

Books/CD/DVD on how to play the drums. (Santa is cruel and got Jackson drums this Christmas). He has already played through one of the CDs.
CD on how to play the piano with a little mini piano for Jessica so she didn't feel left out.
A biography on David Bowie I've wanted to read.
A couple of books on CDs for roadtrips
A book that has 1000 works of art that everyone should know. Jackson's art teacher is great and gets them interested in various artists.
A book on modern furniture.
A book on helping young children with homework.

I love Half Price Books. I could spend all day there. I'd have to take an antihistimine because the dust about kills me though.
