Lori Ussery
Tampa, FL

Lori is about to see the $100,000 question.

There's a difference of opinion between Lori's brother and husband about how to play the game. Lori's brother asked her "you're not going to go big or go home, are you?" That's how Lori's husband plays poker, so this is Lori's chance to do that.

Lori has $43,100 in her bank. All of her lifelines are gone.

$100,000
According to Russ Byars, the Guinness World Record holder for stone skipping, the best angle for a stone to hit the water is what?

A: 5 degrees B: 20 degrees
C: 35 degrees D: 50 degrees

Lori's from a small town in Pennsylvania, so she has skipped a few stones.
Spoiler
She immediately eliminates 50 degrees and thinks 5 degrees is too shallow, so it's between B and C.
Lori steps back from the Hot Podium and goes through the motions of skipping a stone at various angles, before making her choice. The audience starts applauding even before she says "final answer."

Meredith stops them: Guys! You can't do that! Please! I'm sorry--for them doing that. That was wrong. But you are right!

Answer
B: 20 degrees

$250,000
According to a legend popular among locals, the original Garden of Eden is located on the remote island of Praslin where?

A: Maldives B: Seychelles
C: Azores D: Galapagos Islands

Lori can't narrow it down. She walks away with $100,000.
Answer

She used her personal knowledge of skipping stones to correctly work out the answer to a question about skipping stones. I have to take my hat off to her. That's how you play the game.

According to Wikipedia:
It has been reported that General Charles George Gordon of Khartoum (1833-1885) was convinced that Vallée de Mai was the Biblical "Garden of Eden".
I see many other web sites copying this "it has been reported that" phrasing, without giving a citation for the report. Ah, well, it's a good catchphrase for their tourism industry!

I remembered skipping stones as a kid - I reasoned it out the same way.

Here's an article about Lori's appearance.

"Who would have thought that skipping stones as a kid could lead to winning $100,000 on a game show?" said Ussery, who tried out for the show with a few co-workers in July at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.
