Aussie puppie achieved.
The subject of the pic in my avatar now resides in our new home. She's a delight. Only one piddle accident since we arrived home with her last night at 11pm. She crated overnight and hardly cried at all (even tho it was her first overnight in a crate ever and her first night without her mama and 11 siblings). She is smart as a whip, is gentle with the baby and follows us everywhere. She also loves attention. She does not, however, have a name yet. She also has the most remarkable polka dot nose. Breeder says it will fill in. We hope it doesn't.
Flower and plant names a plus. Women names with a take charge attitude and not too many syllables are good. I am brain dead with only 2 1/2 hours of sleep and cannot think.
Any suggestions?

Don't let HoltDad know she doesn't have a name. He just might go on another righteous monologue. Although it is enjoyable when he re-reads what he wrote and notices how it sounds.
My ideas for names:
Kudzu - the mile a minute vine that takes over.
Poa - the grass that will take over a golf course.
Norway Maples are the tree in the forest - so Maple might be a good name.
Dandelions also are kick-ass kinda flowers.
My favorite, of course, would be Peaby.
I don't have an ego or anything.

Bob's suggestion of "Sheila" has me thinking that we should be reviewing a list of Australian flower names for an Aussie pup. Not that any uniquely Australian flowers come to mind...[/quote]
If you want something Aussie... how about Matilda.... Matty for short.

Not to sidetrack the name conversation but Australian Shepherds are not really Australian. They were developed in the western U.S.
There are lots of theories involving Basque shepherds and sheep coming from various places including Australia but it is hard to pin any of those down. The typical blue merle coloring is also similar to that of the Australian Cattle Dog so the name might have carried over to dogs that also had that coloring. Probably the dogs were just developed out of crosses between Border Collies, Basque/Pyrennes sheep dogs, and other types of sheep dogs and given the name "Australian" out of mistaken identity.
Interestingly, Australian Shepherds were first introduced into Australia in the 1990s and they now have breed associations and shows down under.
But there is nothing wrong with an Australian name for your dog.

Daisy is also already taken in the 5LD household. I like Bella(donna) or HOlly(hock), Pansy or Rosebud or Violet.
