For beebs, I tried to find evidence (at least in a language I can read) that this ex-professor has ever published anything of import, aside from this tirade, recently. I could not. Makes him equal to some ex-professor politicians.
(NB the "conservative academic" descriptor is from both right and left of centre sites, this story is loved by bloggy types, so I put it here...)

I think you're being a bit coy. When one says "conservative academic" one usually isn't referring to a middle-eastern one-time university professor addressing a Shura council. You're just trying, as we all do, to stir things up, but it's too transparent, so why with this example?

It would sort of be like, "Liberal sympathizers fear downfall of civilization," and talk about Chavez or something.
