Any Fort Worth BBs?
There is an opportunity for me to spend a four year assignment in Fort Worth.
I am wondering what the schools are like?
Any good/bad areas to live?
What are housing prices? (thinking in the neighborhood of a 2000 sf house, although could be less for 4 years)

A developmental assignment? How about a few details?Appa23 wrote:There is an opportunity for me to spend a four year assignment in Fort Worth.

I can't speak for OC, but the Contracting Division has some good people working for it.

It would be work related to the border fence authorized by statute.earendel wrote:A developmental assignment? How about a few details?Appa23 wrote:There is an opportunity for me to spend a four year assignment in Fort Worth.

I didn't realize the Corps was involved in that.Appa23 wrote:It would be work related to the border fence authorized by statute.earendel wrote:A developmental assignment? How about a few details?Appa23 wrote:There is an opportunity for me to spend a four year assignment in Fort Worth.

- It's all his fault. That'll be $10.

It's to keep the Dallasites over there.TheConfessor wrote:They're building a border fence at Forth Worth? Sounds like I'll need to apply for Mexican citizenship.
Houses in Forth Worth are pretty cheap, but that's from my perspective in the most expensive city in Texas.
Houses are cheap, and getting cheaper. You would be able to make a down payment on a good size house with the change in your pocket.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!
That'll be $10, please.

Seriously, Ft Worth is like any other growing city. There are indeed good and bad areas, but if you look in the good school districts, the neighborhoods are generally safer. Traffic is worse than miserable at rush hour. I would first find the Corps office (I'm assuming it's downtown), and work from there. Gas is prolly cheaper here than Nebraska (running about $2.75-$2.80 a gallon right now), but I would still want to live relatively close to work, if possible. Schools are mediocre to outstanding in Tarrant County, location of the school district is key.
Depending on the area, you can prolly find a 2000 sq ft house in good condition, in a good neighborhood anywhere from $85,000 to $120,000. Those prices will prolly keep going down, the longer you wait.
