On the menu...

#1 Post by Tocqueville3 » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:16 am

for Valentine's Day.

Pot Roast with root veggies and mushrooms
Garlic mashed potatoes
Carmelized green beans
Chocolate dipped strawberries

I love to cook. This dinner is my gift to David. I never know what to get the man so I just feed him. He saw the roast in the fridge this morning and drooled a little.

The girls will "help" me with the strawberries this afternoon. I am thinking of doing the dipping of the berries outside so I don't end up with my kitchen looking like a Jackson Pollock masterpiece. Samantha likes to fling things. Of course, if she flings chocolate around my kitchen I shall fling her little butt in the corner.

On a weirder note, I started taking Lyrica yesterday. Anyone have any thoughts related to this drug? Monday was my last day to take my Prednisone for the Bells Palsy. BTW, it is STILL ooky. When the roids wore off I was left with the most excruciating pain behind my right ear. I could barely function. So I went to the doc and he gave me a perscrpition for Lyrica. It is giving me the most wonderful feeling of euphoria and it has made the pain behind my ear all but disappear. I have been walking around like I am on cloud 9. I can see how people get hooked on perscription meds. Luckily, I should only have to take it for 7 days.

I hope I don't screw it up. The roast is actually really easy. You kinda throw it all in the pot and let it cook the whole afternoon and then slice it up.

The taters are a bit more complicated. Here's the recipe:

And the meal will be tasty, too!

No. 350 degrees. I start it on the stove and then put it in the oven.

Mmmm....pot roast! Garlic mashed potatoes! Yummm....

My mom is making chocolate covered strawberries today as well. She said my SIL isn't allowing her daughter any candy today, so mom's making them for her. Much better than a box of heart-shaped high fructose corn syrup any day. :D

Definitely yummy!

Do you ever use Epicurious for recipes? I love that web site.

I plan on strip steaks topped with crumbled gorgonzola, oven roasted baby potatoes and sauteed carrots and snap peas.

Aren't our sweeties lucky!

I've read a few Epicurious recipes. I might hafta try one.

Your menu sounds fabu. I love steak with gorgonzola cheese.

The creme brule' sounds downright naughty. I need to get one of those little torches. They look awesomely fun.

My favorite comedian is Jim Gaffigan. He does a whole bit on Valentine's candy. He calls the boxed chocolate "gamble chocolate" When you pick one it could either be really good or totally nasty. "Yuck...I got the one filled with toothpaste" Or you can give those little heart shaped antacids. "I know I make you nauseous. Here's a Tums with hug me written on it."

Boxed chocolate is the only way to keep the kids out of your goodie stash. Too much of a crapshoot for them!

If the only Valentine's candy in the store is Conversation Hearts, I go to another store. They suck.

I've read a few Epicurious recipes. I might hafta try one.
What I like best is the searchablility of the site. There is a way to search for 'chicken' + 'grilled' + 'mexican' and get a bunch of recipes to peruse.

Give it a try when you are stumped for a meal.

Don't let her see Across the Universe. Or maybe let her. Much strawberry flinging in that movie.

I think this whenever an Advil Cold and Sinus kicks in. It's happening for me right now. Your drug sounds much more lovely.

I hope your ookiness clears up very soon.

Ditto! The search tool there is great if you have an item in your kitchen that you want or need to use up! Lots of diversity in the recipes, and the reviews on that site are great. I found a recipe there last night for a green tea cheesecake that I'm making later today. :-)

Yeah, I hate the boxes where they do not have the "map" on the inside of the top lid.

My wife likes that chalk candy. (Kinda strange, but she also likes me. There is no accounting for taste. )

We are going all out on our Valentine's dinner -- a veggie pizza at Pizza Hut while the kids use their "Book-It" coupons.

No time for much else tonight. I am home from work around 5:00, and Princess Peanut has dance class and rehearsals from 6:00 until 8:30.
