I don't recall where I heard it, but it's a pretty infamous example of petty cost saving moves. A Google search of "American Airlines" olive $40,000 returns over 2 million hits!

The decision was reportedly made in 1987 and affected only the salads served in first class. Coach passengers probably didn't get any olives to begin with!

I didn't want to turn this thread into a political discussion but...I've studiously avoided this song since the first time I heard it because it seemed like a lot of jingoistic nonsense as a result of 9/11.

It had a resurgence of popularity after 9/11, but this song was originally released in 1984.
