Congress and the sports interrogation

Has anyone heard of good reasons why Congress is interrogating Roger Clemens and others about steroid use in baseball, or why Sen. Specter is discussing "Spygate" with Roger Goodell? Are they planning new laws to prevent the actions in the future? Are they threatening to lift baseball's anti-trust exemption? What is the intended outcome?

All I'm seeing are distractions from much more important areas in which Congress should be working, Congresscritter efforts to keep their names and faces in the public eye, and a thorough waste of taxpayer money.

GSABC, see the actual thread on the "Clemens" hearing for a discussion of the professed reasons for the hearings.

I do think that it is high time for baseball to lose its complete antitrust exemption, and be put on equal footing with the other major sports leagues.

Continued adherence to a faulty legal opinion is bad governing.

Thanks. I had missed the later posts in that thread.

I still think it's bread-and-circuses time there. IMO, the hearings should have been more limited. To none at all. I fully agree with the Cafferty quote posted over there.
