Dave alluded to "completing the game show trifecta" when he ended his run today. A little searching states he won $70,058 between his TPIR and WHeel appearances. He won $23,608 on TPIR($1608 in IUFBs and Plinko SMall Prizes, plus $22K in cash) in the October 3, 2001 episode and won $46450($41K cash and a trip to Jamaica) on Wheel in June 2007.

I can try process of elimination. Crusoe was so huge in literature classes, I can't imagine they would leave out a reference to a pseudonym, same with Moby Dick. Lord of the Flies, I dunno. Surely William Golding wanted this Pulitzer blockbuster published under his own name. Although, he didn't know it was gonna be a Pulitzer blockbuster before he published it. I haven't read Treasure Island, but I can easily imagine Stevenson writing in the first person as "Captain North" to make the narrative flow more easily. Would it be enough to pull the trigger? I dunno.

This is one that should be easy to do by a process of elimination. Using two French painters suggests pretty strongly that the gallery involved is French, which would pretty much eliminates both the Tate (in London) and Guggenheim (a couple different locations over the years, but the 'notable' ones were not in France), but even more importantly, Manet and Degas both died before the Musée d'Orsay opened as a gallery (I think Manet had died even before it was a railroad station) and before any of the Guggenheims had opened, and Manet died before any of the Tates had opened (and the only part of the Tate that was around for either of them was the section that was and is devoted to British art, not likely to be a source for a couple of French sort-of-impressionists), so the only one it could be is the Louvre.

Semi-sort-of-on topic anecdote... when I was on that ‘other’ trivia game show, one of the categories was Art and I pretty much ran through it without much trouble, and hit a (video) Daily Double. I had about $6,000 at the time, was way ahead of either of my opponents, and was debating whether to wage $1,500 or $3,000; I somehow added the numbers and came up with $4,500. They flashed a picture of a painting I had never seen before, identified it as ‘The Snake Charmer,’ and indicated that it was featured in a series of advertisements for Jaguar (which Alex drove at that time); I was supposed to identify the painter. I had no idea, I had the time period right, but no idea of the artist (who happened to be Henri Rousseau). I went right back into Art for the last remaining question in the category, which seemed to intimidate my two opponents, and pretty much cleared the rest of the Board and went into Final J! with more than double their combined scores, so it all ended up OK for me, but I was still vexed about that ~!@#$%^&* painting. Eight years later, I was in the Musée d’Orsay, mostly for the Monets, and there I found that ~!@#$%^&* painting, in the flesh (or, rather, in the canvas). If I had had a razor or a box cutter with me…

If you knew all that about the other museums and the painters, it's likely you knew about the Louvre.
