MarleysDad had an appointment with an oncologist yesterday and he actually found a doctor he likes!

The doctor spent the whole appointment explaining stuff and answering questions--the kind of bedside (or officeside) manner most doctors never seem to have time for. And the only follow-up test he did was a blood test, so Dad didn't feel he was trying to gouge the system.

The news is good, although we already had that from the surgeon and pathology report: they got all the cancer when they removed the tumor, so there's no radiation or chemo necessary.

Marley, that IS really great news!

Tell your dad not to worry--my crew is keeping the medical profession solvent, so they won't have to order too many tests on him.

Last night it was an after-hours appointment to flush out a rock that had been inserted in an ear canal. I don't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing that it WASN'T the three year old! She wouldn't have held still for 40 minutes of flushing (the doctor was just about to give up and send us to the pediatric ENT when it FINALLY came out), but you would think a 9 year old would know better.

He said he wished life had a Do Over button.

Now he missed religion class for two straight weeks (last week was the Super Bowl) and they hadn't held it for two weeks previously and it is also off next week (they follow the public school calendar), so I hope they still recognize him two weeks from now!

Great news! Isn't it funny how our parents use unusual criteria to determine if they like a doctor?

I asked him if the doctor teased him that too much rock was bad for your hearing!

I was so happy it was our regular doctor on call last night. He has this very dry, deadpan humor that works extremely well with my kids.

Marley, this is wonderful.

Good docs with a good bedside manner are hard to find. Your dad is lucky.

All of this is excellent news, Marley. It's a shame this new doctor is an oncologist and can't take over all of your father's future medical care. (I'm hoping, of course, that no one in your family ever needs an oncologist again.)

Very good news! I am glad that your Dad won't have to deal with radiation or chemo.
