One says Chad has been extremely lucky, the other says it's been unbelievable. Chad has one JTQ lifeline remaining.

I was hoping you were old enough to remember Paul MacCready and the Gossamer Condor and the Gossamer Albatross.

As for the measurement question, linguistically you can have a lot of confidence that some integer number of pecks goes into a bushel. Since we're talking about liquid measures, which is pretty consistently divided by 2s and 4s, it's likely that a bushel is either 2 pecks or 4 pecks, in which case the correct answer has to be divisible by 3 or by 5. That lets you narrow it down.

None of which would have mattered to me. I'd have gone down in flames on The Economist, going instead with Esquire. Congratulations on the great result. --Bob

I really, really like how tense question eight ended up being. Even though I've watched the show for years and know Meredith loves to fake out... I didn't remember while I was up there. :)
They edited a bit out of question nine. Being so far in with so much money, I took a bit of time to reason it out even though I was pretty sure it was blatantly easy. They just kept in my last thought at the end after looking over the choices.
And although maybe I could have tried to reason something out on question ten, I wasn't going to bother. My favorite thing about how my game turned out is that some people have temptations, decide not to go for it, and end up being correct. I had zero temptations and nary an inkling and that makes it so much better to look back on.

$43,550, without double your money, is an amount that has been equal to or more than some people's round two banks when they get to keep all of it. I was able to leave round one with a large total and for that, I am very grateful and very, very happy with my winnings. I'm willing to take any questions, of course, so feel free to keep commenting and inquiring. I appreciate the support so far! :)

1/2 his bank? Is this some new rule that you only get 1/2 your money now?

That started with the new randomized format. If you walk in round 1 you get only half. If you walk in round 2 you get it all.

While this is very elegant thinking, no way in hell anyone is standing at the Ironing Board and figuring this out in a couple of minutes with APs galring at them to get a move on!

Sorry you had to use your last lifeline on this question. I wonder, did you associate "albatross" with "Gooney Bird", a name given to a WWII transport plane? Also, this is as good a time as any to ask if you tried to keep track of the original difficulty level of the questions? Given that you jumped this one to get to the next one, which was the original Level 1 question, I thought that might have factored into your decision.

"Leaving" starts with "All my bags are packed...", "Proud Mary" begins "Left a good job in the city..." and "Honky Tonk Woman" starts out "I met a gin-soaked..." so that only leaves "Give Peace a Chance". Good for you in going for it after almost deciding to walk away.

This is a tough one, particularly since bushels and pecks are usually considered dry measures. Assuming they are the same quantities, a bushel is four pecks and a peck is two gallons, so the answer would be 10. However at the Hot Podium I don't think I would have been willing to risk almost $100,000 for a shot at the $100K question. Which, of course, raises my other question - had you not been so close to $100K already (half for walking away) would you have been more likely to go for the answer?

I honestly don't know where I thought I might have heard it. Just somewhere in passing, I guess. And I did try to memorize the location of the top three questions... but then they threw that big shiny "double your money" bar up there and I lost track. :P

Nah. I didn't even want to start trying to throw logic at the question that would have been likely wrong anyway. I was more than happy to know that I had no clue and surrender.

I got my card from Meredith a couple of weeks after taping with a very nice message. But this morning, I got an overnight FedEx from Valleycrest Productions... It's not even my check, it's a personalized autographed 8x10 from Meredith with another inscription. Truly the sweetest, kindest woman on TV.

Interesting - I got a card (which I had to hide for 6 months) but no glossy!

Hey Chad- I know you said that there was editing on the 60's Music Q, but I'm still dying to know- if you were unfamiliar with two of the songs, what was it that made you go ahead with pulling the trigger on Give Peace a Chance? I'm SO glad it worked for you, but... how? :)

btw- I've had a cute "Rubes" cartoon on my fridge since my kids were tiny. I'ts a picture of a mother trying to feed a stubborn kid a spoonful of peas, and her speech bubble reads, "All that I'm saying is give peas a chance!" At the bottom, it says "John Lennon's Mom" I'll have to send you a copy. Or better yet, maybe it's Googleable... :) update: I looked, but couldn't find it online. Maybe someone else will have better luck.

I was preeeetty sure that Peace started with "Everybody's talkin' 'bout." I was banking on the fact that none of the other songs did. :)
