Just if you're interested to know, Q5 and Q6 were edited down somewhat from the in-studio experience. Hard luck for Robin not to get a different stack!

So either there was improper intervention from someone in the audience or TPTB edited the tape to make it appear that way.

I'd like to hear from Chad about her - she seemed a little flustered from the very start and I'm not sure she ever got her "game legs" so to speak.

She even commented that it couldn't be the radar detector. Perhaps the term "fuzz" meaning police has gone out of style.

Since Dell, HP and IBM all are Wintel systems and thus start up with the same tone (depending upon the OS, of course), the only one it could be is C.

I believe this was discussed here on the Bored when it was published. Isn't there an audio version read by Morgan Freeman? Or am I only imagining that?

This question would have confused me, because the chord for my Mac is F major, not C major. I wonder if it used to be C major. Not that it would have made a difference in her case.

Ah, a musician who can argue about the chords! (I can't.)

Wikipedia says you may be right:
The Macintosh startup chime is the single note or chord (depending on model type) played when an Apple Macintosh computer is turned on. The sound indicates that diagnostic tests run immediately at startup have found no hardware or fundamental software problems[1].

Mark Lentczner created the code for the arpeggiated chord used on the Macintosh II. Variations of this sound were used until Jim Reekes created the startup chime used on most Macintoshes since the Quadra 840AV.[2] Reekes said, "The startup sound was done in my home studio on a Korg Wavestation. It's a C major chord, played with both hands stretched out as wide as possible (with 3rd at the top, if I recall)." The Macintosh LC, LC II, and Macintosh Classic II use an F major chord instead of C major. The first generation of Power Macintosh computers do not use the Reekes chime, instead using a chord strummed on a Yamaha 12-string acoustic guitar by jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan. Also, the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh features a variant of the chime not used on any other Macintosh model.

Why? Aside from the "video that is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Audible, Inc." there's nothing to read. :P

I still think I posted a link to the book sometime this summer, but the search function isn't helping me find it.

No, 90% of the audience had heard the term. I have no idea how many actually live in one.

You said "I guess I've never lived in a home that had one of these because I've never heard the term." The implication there is that, other than to have lived in such a house, there would have been no way for you to have heard of this term. I was wondering if you thought there was no other way that 90% of the audience would have heard of it, either.
