If this wasn't just a blatant attempt to brown-nose Meredith, I can't imagine why he wouldn't have wanted to be on the show while it was in primetime, but would want to appear on SyndieBAM. My hunch was that this question was about Ötzi the Iceman, and so it is.

Ötzi had several carbon tattoos including groups of short, parallel, vertical lines to both sides of the lumbar spine, a cruciform mark behind the right knee, and various marks around both ankles. Radiological examination of his bones showed "age-conditioned or strain-induced degeneration" in these areas, including osteochondrosis and slight spondylosis in the lumbar spine and wear-and-tear degeneration in the knee and especially the ankle joints.[19] It has been speculated that these tattoos may have been related to pain relief treatments similar to acupressure or acupuncture. If so, this is at least 2000 years before their previously known earliest use in China (c. 1000 BC).[20]

I don't know, but John is a friend of mine. I can ask him for you. Maybe he just didn't want to face the Fastest Finger round. There's no shame in that IMHO.

John's blogging about his experience on his website. He's posted about his audition and the trip to New York and the prelude to taping.

I would imagine that many people might have thought that the phone game was too tedious and too left to chance to even think of trying and the odds were too great of wasting your time. Going to an audition seems so much more doable.

That's how it was for Sting.

Perhaps that's how John felt. I'm sure there were millions of folks who tried the Phone Game, when the show first premiered, but quickly lost their motivation to keep trying. Hey, they called that phone number once, twice, may even three times and they still couldn't get the questions right, or didn't get the callback if they did.

But that's different from not wanting to be on the show.

You know, for instance, that I still deeply, desperately want to be on the show now, but I don't want to jump through the hoops to make myself appear to be the person the APs like at auditions. Those are two different things.

Another pretty tough one. Mummies are usually wrapped, so you wouldn't ordinarily see tattoos or piercings. My inclination was "tattoos" and I probably would have gone with that answer.

I'd use another JTQ on this one. From my recliner I guessed correctly but on a question this high up the unrandomized stack I couldn't be sure.

Not only are these stoves a huge source of carbon pollution, the carbon monoxide created by cooking with these basic stoves kills people. Someone developed a cheap, simple stove that cooks more cleanly and efficiently with the same fuel sources - there is a big effort to deploy them where they would be most useful.

This was a good level 10 question - if you weren't familiar with the editorial, you may have been able to figure it out based on knowing the above, knowing which of the actresses had a relationship with the UN, and speculating which politician would be most likely to take up this cause. I might have gone for it, as I had narrowed the actress down to Sandra Bullock or Angelina Jolie, and thought Hillary Clinton would have been much more likely to pen the editorial than Bob Dole.

Of course it would have been a level 14 or 15 question with Regis, but them's the breaks with the syndicated Millionaire budget.

Indeed, I had a similar initial reaction. In fact I saw nothing particularly unusual about that couple or possibly even the Bullock/Biden pairing. Madonna/Powell would perhaps be a little odd I suppose but still not as much as Jolie/Dole, at least to me.
