From this week's The Sporting News:

National Geographic Channel is filming the rehab of 22 canines from the Vick dogfighting ring for new installments of its show Dogtown. The dogs are being treated at an animal sanctuary in Utah. Episodes will air this summer.

I read that those dogs were not fighting for long, so they are in much better shape - physically and emotionally than most fight dogs.

I think the original batch was 45 or 50 dogs, so I guess those others were not good candidates for rehab. Still, if they are somewhere with a bit of dirt to run on and no one poking at them, I'm happy for them.

This article about Vick's dogs was in the Tulsa World earlier this week. It made my heart happy.

Thank you for posting that link, Miss Hermillion. I am wearing a very wide smile. I am so pleased that such a large number of my formerly doomed canine cousins have found nice lives with good families.

I am shaking my head over the first sentence, which described "the big dog" at 52 pounds. That is how much my baby sister weighs, and I do not want her to think she is a big dog! It's a good thing she can't read, because I have told her she is a puny little wisp of a thing, and I don't want her to find out anything to the contrary. (Jake, my pit bull buddy, weighs at least 80 pounds or more. I consider him a big dog.)

Since the nice little dog in the article likes classical music, I will try to contact him to see if he would like to be in my opera. I could write in a good, small part for him if he has an interest in performing, and if not, he can still attend as my guest.

Miss Annie, I am certain the little dog in the article would be delighted to hear from you. I loved the description of him as "a man of high class and culture." He certainly sounds like a dog one would be pleased to know.
