Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Kicks Off Season 10 September 5th
In addition to the potential for more cash and prizes, there are also a number of theme weeks and episodes coming up. Some of these include:

• Celebrity Week - From September 19th to 23rd, celebrities will appear on the show to try and win money for the Alzheimer's Association.

• Ghost Hunters - Ghost Hunters stars Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson will return to Millionaire this Halloween. In an interesting twist, Meredith Vieira will join Jason, Grant, and their team on a special episode of Ghost Hunters on October 26th.

• Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - In another crossover, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team members Paige Hemmis and Michael Maloney will appear on Millionaire to try and win cash for charity. Later on in prime time, Meredith Vieira will show up on Extreme Makeover to present the check for their winnings. Both shows will air on Friday, November 18th.

• Mike Rowe - One of my favorite TV stars, Mike Rowe, will also be playing Millionaire this season, with his winnings going to his charity the mikeroweWORKS foundation. The air date for this one is yet to be confirmed.

• Deadliest Catch - Deadliest Catch stars Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand will play Millionaire as a team in an upcoming episode, donating their winnings to the Seattle Fisherman's Memorial.

With most of the celebrity appearances staggered throughout the season, we'll be getting the best of both worlds. Lots of special episodes sprinkled in with the regular episodes that we all love to watch! Not only that, but our very own Chad Mosher is getting ready to appear as a contestant. It's going to be an exiting season, fitting for a tenth anniversary celebration!

I sure hope that's a typo for "exciting."

Please, please, please let it be the cast of Jersey Shore....

I thought they would be on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader....oh...that would be an insult to 5th graders.

I didn't realize that there was a "best" of Hell.

If we all love to watch the regular episodes, why do we need all the celebrity "specials"?

All this means is fewer opportunities for regular folks (like BBs) to be contestants.

5th Grader is cancelled, don't think they'll be on that show. Syndicated Millionaire went eight seasons without any celebrity shows. Then when Michael Davies leaves as producer, celeb shows make a comeback.

No, it's not. It is running in syndication and is airing two new episodes tonight.

Other than the obvious (for me at least) fun in seeing the Hillstrands do this--what is the point in doing celebrity editions for a syndicated show that people largely watch or don't watch based on its time slot and interest in the show. In other words, I don't believe a celebrity edition will draw in a single additional viewer.

The episodes aired have been seen either in syndication, on CMT, or on Mynetwork TV. They were taped about a year ago and the show and it's companion, Don't Forget the Lyrics, won't be back with new episodes next month like the other remaining network and syndicated game shows will.

I don't like the celebrity editions. The whole point of BAM is to watch someone potentially win a life changing amount. We all know the celebrities get help with the questions and that lessens the drama and fun. I don't watch those shows.

Then you'd be wrong. I don't watch the show, but I would tune in to see Mike Rowe (well, my dvr would tune in to see Mike Rowe.....).

Okay, you proved Buff wrong. :|

But if you don't watch the show, despite hanging out on a message board that is ostensibly about the show, what are the odds that you'll continue watching, after Mike Rowe makes his guest appearance? How about those other fans of his that might tune in, for one day only?

Will TPTB's strategy this season be to rent a TV audience, on a day by day basis, from the stars of other shows, like they sometimes have rent an audience to fill their studio?

Well excuse the piss out of me. I didn't realize that watching the show was a prerequisite for posting here. Hopefully I'll be able to wrangle a day or two of "hanging out" here in exchange for indulging in some ontopicosity, so my answers to your questions are:

1. The odds might improve if they had a T&T crossover week.

2. Don't know, don't care enough to form an opinion.

3. That actually sounds like a pretty good idea. There are lots of shows that have done well where the draw is the guests, not the show itself......

I predict this will be the last season for the show. :x

I didn't say it was. I realize there are some BBs who have lost interest in watching the show. Did you use to have some interest in the show, at least, or did you end up on the Bored entirely at random?

But since Buff made the mistake of exaggerating his point in the form of "not one" and you took pleasure in demolishing that exaggerated point ("I'm one! Ha ha!") I was trying to focus the discussion back on Buff's more general argument.

You gotta wonder why they're getting gimmicky...but I've thought this before and been wrong.

I tried to remember to tune in to the syndicated show when it first started, but it was on at a bad time for me and, since I was like the third to last person on God's Green to actually get a dvr, it went by the wayside. And, like many things (hockey, for instance), when you don't pay attention to it for a length of time, you find out that you get along just fine without it.

And, whether you choose to believe it or not, my response wasn't to "demolish" his hyperbole. Mike Rowe fans are legion!

Also, I would never say "Ha ha!".....

DOn't forget that Millionaire is the lead in to All My Children on at least two big ABC stations, WABC NY and WPVI Philly. With Children gone in a month, one wonders if its replacement, the Chew(a mostly food-based hour long talkfest), will get the same ratings as Children. That might cause MIllionaire to get a different timeslot or be moved to another station.

How would most potential new viewers even know about the celebrity episodes if they don't already watch the show? I think at least 99% of non-viewers will be totally unaware of the celebrity episodes, but 100% of the people who regularly enjoy the civilian shows will have the celebs jammed down their throats. That seems like a formula for alienating regular viewers without attracting many new ones.
