Good Morning America had a story today about a new amusement park with rides based on the Star Trek movie. In the background was a photo of a familiar looking man:



I tried to remember the face. A Star Trek producer or Paramount executive? Then they showed a clip from Star Trek: Voyager with the same man (younger, of course) in a Star Fleet uniform.

Finally, they explained that the theme park will be in Aqaba, Jordan, and King Abdullah is a big Star Trek fan. Here's an article about the project:

I heard about this on NPR last weekend. The theme park has the blessing of CBS/Paramount. It's supposed to open in the summer of 2014 in Aqaba. I'm seriously contemplating going.

Based on my brief aerial survey of Aqaba last fall, other than the attraction of the Gulf of Aqaba in the otherwise nearly landlocked and desert country (you can only roll in the mud and float in the Dead Sea for so long and that super salty water has a way of finding mucus membranes in places you really don't want exposed to it), it will be the biggest thing there is in town. Practically the only thing for that matter...

Will they have a holodeck?
