B4 Team-Check In

How are you doing with your health and fitness stuff.

Good, not so good, puny.

EXPOUND, FOR IT IS FRIDAY!













I'm on week 2 of my congestion thingy. The erratic weather probably doesn't help. Third day of not having to take Nyquil or nose drops to be able to sleep.

My eating has been very nutritious, and I finally put new batteries back into the scale. Scale number is not ideal, but better than it was a few months ago.

I've been more efficient at my workouts. I think I need to start doing classes again, but the pain jump from my workouts to classes is large. My club has mostly advanced classes and well, even doing them at partial speed will get me sore as heck.

I think February the 5th might be the official day of "Amateurs Leaving the Gym." It's been really really crowded with the New Years resolution folks, but I was there at 5:30 pm the other day and it was pretty empty.

January/Feb PCLT will go up in a second.

I have very little to expound upon, but...I have done the fitness center twice this week and, in keeping with my Lenten commitment, have used the treadmill here at work twice also.

Got to the gym every day this week but will prolly miss today. I am taking a slow approach to getting back to the "workout" schedule that I had built up to before. I am happy about how things are going. I will know how things are going after a couple of weeks by the way my clothes fit. Er, some pants are a tad snug right now.

Margaret and I will be heading out for a "winter getaway" next Thursday and what a "winter" trip it will be. :D We will go bug the two daughters, one in Minneapolis and the other in Fargo. Ya, great winter trip. :lol: Speaking of winter, it really has been rather mild and little snow, but that will change this weekend, back down to over 20 below again for a couple of days. Good thing the high's will be more like -10.

Work will get exciting next month as the "examiners" arrive. The state not the feds, and with the state that usually means "raw and green" rookies. They love to "find" something or anything so they can show the higher ups they know what they are doing. In other words, hassle city coming up.

Doing nicely, looks like I've dropped about 6 pounds over the last month, mostly by skipping the bagels and junk at work and skipping desserts at home. I've been doing the morning walk (3.4 miles) as the weather allows, and so far no problems with the knees and ankles.

Weight's going up, thanks to uncontrolled junk food snacking. I did start in on the baby carrots last night, but only because the pretzels and tortilla chips were gone by then. :oops:

At least I did a little better getting to the gym this week. If the weather cooperates, I could get a little more walking done at lunchtime, too.* But, hey, only three more weeks of Winter and then two months of Unlocking, and we'll be in Spring! :wink:

Today's weight = 193.6. Moving average = 193.7.



*Not directly related to my B4 report, but indirectly so because I'll use it on my walks, my new toy is an MP3 player! A SanDisk Sansa Clip with 1 GB of memory. I've ripped some of my favorite CDs onto it and now I'm trying out the new digital audiobook service our library is offering. Very nice, although the book selection is still limited. :)

Anyone have some favorite podcasts you'd like to recommend?

Okay with weight issues, not so good on sleep issues.

Weight is returning to what seems to be my nominal, the original 210 target. My excursions below that were fleeting prior to the holiday jump (hop, actually; I went back up to the 217-218 range, still significantly below where I started). If I can keep my hands out of the fridge and healthy snack drawer when I'm home, I may be able to get further.

Sleep is seriously ungood. There is just too much to be done around and for the household, and some of it involves early rising even on the weekends. Add in cats who won't keep still in the middle of the night and then yowl if you lock them out of the room and a pillowtop mattress that I regret buying four years ago. My eyelids are even more droopy than usual, and it's affecting my memory. I am not happy about it, but solving the problem while still doing all that needs to be done is proving difficult.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

It has been record-warm here, so I got a bunch of outside time, which is good.

I am still hacking away after three weeks, but I am hacking up clear stuff and not yellow stuff, so that is sorta good.

I have pulled various muscles from all the coughing, and the latest one is my right rear shouldery one, so it hurts to cough or bend over or heave hernia jugs of laundry detergent onto the shelf, so I am just about over being sick. I've had it.

Two more doses of antibiotics left, then we'll see where I am and what I need to do to get rid of this once and for all.

A much better week after a nightmare weekend. I'm still working on 4 stubborn unwanted pounds. I wish I didn't care about the scales so much, as my jeans were actually a bit loose this morning. Maybe that's all should be worried about.

mini, is it possible that you have pertussis (whooping cough) rather than a cold? The symptoms are very similar but the type of cough (deep, persistent and violent) might mean something. I read just yesterday that the pertussis vaccinations that many of us were given as children wear off, and there are recommendations that adults between 30 and 60 get vaccinated (and boosters every 10 years).

Actually, my doctor said he couldn't rule it out for me, but did for Erin since she was only 3.

There is a viral pneumonia going around this area--three of the little girls in my neighbor's Mom's Morning Out group have it! I definitely had a secondary infection on top of whatever else settled into my lungs, so that's being treated sucessfully. All I know is my seatmate on my trip to Vegas was sicksicksick, and I caught it.

Day 30.

Woot!

I'll likely be going off the Chantix in the next week or two, due to the side effects, which sucks. (Doctor's opinion, I didn't decide to say hell with it). We're trying a last ditch round of an even lower dosage in the hopes that it'll take the edge off without making me continue to feel rotten, but she thinks that realistically, the magic amount that won't make me sick won't be enough to be effective. We'll see how it goes.

Apparently I am one of the small percentage of lucky people (I think it's 3%) who just don't tolerate it well. I still recommend it to people though. I've tried to quit multiple times (as y'all know) and this is the best it's worked so far.

I feel confident that I will continue to stay off, although that does mean it is probably about to get harder. I can hack it.

Exercising still bites it, but I'm still losing weight as a side-effect from the partner's low-carb, low-fun diet, so I'm not going to stress about that at all right now. It's still important, but I have bigger fish to fry.

At 30 days, you are close to the point where your mind is over it. It takes about six weeks for us to entrench a new habit, brainwise. The body's being done with it varies, though, with the person and the habit. I bet you are over the hump.

I am getting fired up about the sprint triathlon in October. A guy called the paper last night with a press release about another one in the same time period, and it has an open-water swim instead of in the pool. That was good for two reasons: it made me realize the one I signed up for is in a pool (yay!), but it also got me thinking about the open water one.

I may sign up for both, and do an occasional blog for the paper if they want it.

You can do it. You're over the hardest part of beating the physical addiction, so now you just have to keep your head in the right place. I would be happy to send you a daily e-mail to assist in that effort. IMO, mine would be far more helpful than the pointless, irregular e-mails sent by the PR interns in the Chantix group. I also serve as an excellent recipient of venting, if that ever should prove necessary.

Yesterday was spent (and really most of Thursday, as well) trying to get my classroom ready for two days away from school. Got to go to a conference in Indy.

So the challenge for the week ahead is to get workouts while in Indy.

Since coming back from Arizona, I've been down since Thursday with the flu, had a couple of days of over 102 fever, a first since my high school days (1988). So it will be more recovery time before I get active again.

I could probably point the finger to one of my cousins who wasn't feeling well on the drive back from the game to the hotel, since it takes about four days (Sunday to Thursday) from catching it to getting symptons. My dad had flu symptoms as well, but fortunately not as bad as mine.
