oh boy oh boy oh boy
Freaking awesome.
What an incredible start. Smug group of experienced survivors got trounced royally by the newbie fan team.
Johnny Fairplay was totally out of it. He seemed to think that he was still the big player, but he was played beautifully by the group he thought he had conned.
Two romances already? I smell some serious boots at tribal coming up. I think the girls will be sent packing first, as they want James and Ozzie for their abilities on the team still.

I think the Fairplay thing was an edited set-up. Survivor probably paid him some decent up-front money to show up, everybody knowing that he would be the big target to get booted ASAP. You notice when they come up with the two groups of four that they spent a lot of air time on Fairplay and his talks with both groups, but where was Cirie during all this? She was just as much an odds-out vote as Fairplay but you saw and heard NOTHING of her, not even at council.
Once the Favs lost then voting out Fairplay was a done deal - the rest was just for show to give some drama.

Seemed like an OK start so far.
Not sure where I stand on the Jonny Fairplay stunt but not particularly sorry to see him go either way.
Looks like the newbies aren't a bad bunch but, with the exception of "the crazy woman", it looks like the casting producer for the women, especially on the fans side, must have been a 16 year old boy. Had a real eye for the "boobies" and I ain't talkin' birds here...
Ozzy and Amanda are apparently having a good time being back on Survivor...

I hadn't realized it was one til halfway through, but it rocked from then. I don't care how/why JF got the boot, but I was delighted by it. It'll be a good series, I think.

The editing was typical. Especially early on, when there is still a large number of players, they only focus on a few of them. Usually, the player who talks about how smart, strong or secure they are is the one to go.

Heck, ol' Fairplay may be the smartest of the bunch. He had to know he wasn't going to win and he now gets a month long vacation in some resort where he can probably call home and certainly get plenty of food and drink. Not to mention a bed and a shower!

They are back in Palau, where the tenth episode was shot. But they are calling it Micronesia to make it different from that season.
Palau is a relatively new member of the island groups that make up Micronesia. Micronesia to me was always Guam and the Marianas along with the Carolines and Marshall Islands. Palau is at the western edge of the Carolines. For a long time Palau was not regarded as part of Micronesia, instead being regarded as part of Melanesia along with New Guinea and other surrounding islands. Not sure why the change was made. But it has always been a bit of an arbitrary divide anyway.
The "all-stars" come from the episodes before and after the first Palau installment but none of them are from that tenth season so no one has been here before.

Thanks to you both.
Palau was the island that had all the wrecks from WWII, right?

Yes, there was a major engagement there on and around the island of Peleliu. A current Navy assault carrier is named for the island and the battle.
I should add that, like most Oceania nations, Palau is made up of an island chain containing many separate islands, Peleliu being one.

I saw Probst on one of the morning talk shows this week and he said that there was some debate about bringing him back but that in the end they got burned by him just as they (the producers) deserved.
Maybe he was spouting company line but it sounded like if Fairplay took a dive he did it on his own.

IIRC from past interviews, Probst cannot stand Fairplay. That seemed to show the other night - don't think that the interaction between Fairplay and Probst was acting.

True and it was still evident on this morning show interview. But Probst did say he was over it for the most part and was giving him the benefit of the doubt because Fairplay was just another guy in the industry trying to make a living or words to that effect.
But it wasn't like they were best buddies now!

I'd like to know who were in the 10 favorites not picked. The show had 20 and cut it to ten before the show started. Their thinking was to have a larger pool to help prevent pre-alliances?
Yul was one (the only winner in the group) who didn't make the cut. Too bad to think he could have been there instead of Fairplay.
I was disappointed that firefighter Tom declined at all to participate, feeling he couldn't do any better than he did the first time around.

Which is why reality shows shouldn't have "guys in the industry" as contestants.

Yeah, well that ain't gonna happen. That tradition goes back at least 30-40 years. The Dating Game, which was more like a reality show than a game show (and pretty bad for either genre) typically had a lot of wannabe actors. Tom Selleck is one that comes to mind.
The difference now is that we have "professional" reality show contestants who for the most part have no other discernable talent, at least that I can see.
Fairplay certainly fits that category. Romber is/are another example.

I haven't. But I haven't been looking either. They may have burned some bridges because they supposedly bailed on the poker show they were doing to do TAR All Stars.
And that worked out well for them...
One can only hope that their grossly elongated 15 minutes of pseudo fame is finally over.

A bit ballsy to shoot the show without a network confirmed to air it. Supposedly it is being shot already, according to Wiki, although there seems to be a dirth of information about it so it may have been delayed again. Lack of a network committment may explain that.
Odd eligibility requirement. Can't spend more than $20 to go to a casting call? Unless they only wanted people from the locations they held the casting calls that would seem hard to do. Unless I am misreading it.
4 months of shooting also seems a wee bit much...
The name and its history are interesting, but probably only to a small segment of the population, mostly trivia geeks (not that we have any of those here...). Not sure it would resonate well with "the masses".
And calling it a cross between Survivor and Amazing Race I suppose is the hook for Mariano to be the host.

Two things:
1. Unless the web site is way wrong, the Tontine thing should already be a done deal - four months from last September is over already.
2. Totally unrelated but Tan, your avatar really creeps me out....not sure just why.

1. Wiki, that always indisputable source, said that initial filming was delayed and was scheduled to begin Jan 08. If that happened then presumably it is still ongoing.

2. Yeah, that's why I like it! I like Escher in general but this one, for obvious reasons, has even greater appeal even though it is not typical of the type of work, impossible realities, he is best known for. It is one of his self portraits done in a similar fashion to the lower picture except to do his eye he used a convex shaving mirror held much closer to his face of course.
