The contestant mused before using ATA that
Crosby
was a likely answer because most members of the Rat Pack
were singers
. This may well have pushed the audience. --Bob

She was thinking about the Sinatra/Martin Rat Pack, not the originals.

There's another Rat Pack? My thinking would have been the same as the contestant's.....

That's what makes it a shitty question. I would suspect an overwhelming percentage of people would consider the Sinatra/Martin Rat Pack to be the "infamous" one (or only know of that one). The question would have been more fair and accurate had it been something like "Prior to Frank Sinatra and his pals, the term "Rat Pack" originated in the ‘50s as a circle of what famous actor’s friends?"

So who were the original Rat Pack?

I hate when they do things like this. When Karah answered, I thought she said "C, final answer" but that could refer to either the letter for the answer (which would be "U") or the letter choice (answer "A").

Pretty tough - given the most widely known constituency of the group, one would think they were singers, and thus Bing Crosby would be the answer (I suspect that was the audience's reasoning). I don't know what I would have done in that situation - probably JTQ.
