My first thought was that this was an unwitting shout-out to Marley, but I see in another thread that he's only tried out 22 times.

I might very well have bit on the AT&T distractor.

Jade and emerald are green, ruby is red, so diamond is the only one that makes sense to me.

There actually are people who live in NYC and have ample free time who have auditioned more often that me, probably much more often. I met one, a couple years ago; he had some personal appearance issues that made him untelegenic, in my eyes, but that didn't stop him. He had a name that qualified him for "Famous Names" week, but that didn't work for him, either.

Here's an article about Clare's appearance.

http://tarrytown.patch.com/articles/tar ... illionaire
After two tryouts and several months of waiting, Clare Coughlin finally made it on to “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” and walked away $6,250 richer.
Finally! After two tryouts!!! :|
Coughlin first tried out for the show in the summer. She passed a written test but didn’t make it past the first interview with a producer.

On a second tryout in September, she made it to the contestant pool but was told not to get her hopes up. A couple of weeks later, she got a call from the show saying she was scheduled to appear at the end of October.

“I was so excited, but then the show called the day before and cancelled,” Coughlin said.

Finally, her episode was taped in mid-November and aired last Monday.
