Big Hair and the 80's

Was the big hair thing more Late 80's?

I graduated high school in 1985 and college in 1989 so the 80's were my time to a tee.

Anyway-my vision of girls hair in the 80's (supported by recent looks at annuals and so forth) is generally shorter and feathered back.

The school has class photos out and Big Hair is really prominent in the Classes of 1988-1990 (or so).

Spocky --

In some neighborhoods in Northeast Philadelphia, the big hair era runs from about 1978 until the present day.

I have a picture from either 1981 or 1983 of me with TLAF's next-door neighbors. Three daughters -- two teenagers and a preteen.

There's a massive amount of poufy blow-dried hair in that photo!

I think my big hair days went out around 1978. Followed by the hair itself ...

I think it was a decade long tradition, because most people think early 80's when they think of the big hair days, but I know when I entered high school in 1989, hair was still exploding everywhere, at least for the girls.

The difference bewteen the photos in my freshman yearbook and my senior yearbook are quite stark indeed. The big hair era got dumped in the early 90's quickly and completely....

Ditto what melly said!

i know this bar
with a jukebox full of medicine
and christmas lights blinking
around a clouded mirror
it's not that far
from old voelkers bowling alley
just go up there and turn right
it's about four blocks from here

you'll probably find grace
her shift starts at happy hour
she's got this sweet face
easy as tea leaves to read
you gotta know what to look for
you gotta know what's there to find
but then i gues syou don't really know her
so nevermind

i used to hang out a lot around there
in that part of town
where all the white kids
still have feathered hair

i know this song
with this one really killer line
i don't remember it exactly
but it slays me everytime
it's on the jukebox there
i know it's number 5403
go put that song on for me won't you
and make gracie think of me

Feathered hair was more of a Charlies Angels thing that slipped into the 80s.

Big hair was sort of a hair band phenomenon.

I am very thankful that there are few pictures of me from the big hair era because I could make my hair quite large.

I am forever thankful there are no known pictures of me from the spring of 1987. Otherwise known as "The Time I got a Perm."

I never could have big hair.

I was best in the late 60's early 70's. It is easy for me to do long, straight and stringy.
