I am going to an 80's party. Lots of clothing options from that era.

I tried on various things at a second hand store. Apparently 80s attire is back. My fashion rule generally is that if I wore it the first time, I don't wear it again for fear that someone thinks that I just stayed that way.

In any event, I found some inexpensive but perfectly fitting black leather pants. So I think I am going to go Benatar it the way on up a bit:



But with hair more like this maybe:



Maybe put up with a banana clip as I no longer have bangs. Huge hair.

Lots of fuschia lipstick, purple eyeshadow, heavy mascara and blush.

Please put an image of what iconic 80s look you would go for.

You can probably find a vintage clothing store in the Third Ward section of Houston.

If not, there used to be one at about 1200 W 6th St in the West End of Austin that may still be there. Good excuse for a road trip!

I was in Houston visiting friends last week and happened to notice TWO 70's/80's stores in the Montrose area. I remember them because we went to a 70's party a while back, and I was jealous to see those stores now after the fact! I can't remember where they were exactly, but I want to say somewhere on Westheimer before you get to Katz's Deli.

I read that some rock star has in his contract that corn starch must be in his dressing room at every venue. I think that it's to make sure that he can put on or take off his pants.

Lots of shops in the Montrose. Know them all.

I tend to favor Buffalo Exchange because they have some legitimately cool things there, and I tend to have credits with them because I take my stuff there when I am cleaning closets.

Bought the husband some black and white striped Vans. My kids asked me why I bought him girl shoes.

I have never been to that store...I'm back in town there weekend after next, so maybe I'll check it out. I truly miss the shopping in Houston! The maternity selection in this part of PA blows big fat monkey chunks! I have had the hardest time finding comfortable pants that fit my short length...but I got lucky last week in Rice Village. It was so bad that I had to go change into the new pair after I paid for them, and then had the dopiest smile on my face the rest of the day. Ahhhh....sweet relief!

I wouldn't have any problem going to an 80's party. I still have all my clothes from that era.

The only thing is that Mrs. SSS would have to let them out a bit. They seem to have shrunk in the closet.

You need leg warmers and jackets with large shoulder pads.

Also - I hope you are not planning on dancing in those pants.

Maybe you don't sweat, so maybe it would work out just fine.

If your husband needs underwear from the 80's let me know.

I can take some out of the drawer-and ship them down.

They have been washed at least weekly since the 80's.

I think the Benetar look is a winner.

I can't post the image but, when I was a sportswriter in California (80-89), one of the reporters and his wife would throw a yearly "come-as-a..."

For three years running, it was come as a rock star.

One year, I went as Madonna, in her Desperately Seeking Susan mode.

I wore a tank top with a lace tank top overlay, a vintage white men's tuxedo jacket (borrowed from a colleague who had used it for his Buddy Holly the year before), a purple knit mini (really mini) skirt, fishnet tights and my own vintage shoes. Tied my hair up in a scarf-as-headband and wore super danggly earrings.

It was quite the outfit.

Another year, three of us went as Generic 60's Girl Group and tawked like the Shangra-las awl night.

"Zat Jimmy's ring you're wearin'?"

But, that's another era entirely.

You need some neon orange or neon pink nail polish. Striped eyeshadow would be good.

Some of those rubber bracelets would be fab. Like a hundred of them running up your arm.

This has got my brain moving. The girls will be visiting their grandparents later this month. I think David and I will have an 80's party. I think I still could find some jelly shoes.

I have a big plastic box of banana clips on my dresser. I keep them there because it's handy, since I wear them on a REGULAR BASIS. I'm not sure how to feel about that.

I had no idea they were collector's items. Maybe I should put them on ebay. Time to get rid of the Cher Hair anyway. Ha!

a necessary piece of hair equipment for REALLY BIG hair. Pretty sure I have one in my bottom vanity drawer. Google image 'banana clip' to see one. It's the pictures without the guns.

I almost hesitate to admit this...but there was a time when my girlfriends and I would dippity do the hell out of our hair, put in the banana clip and hairspray it into oblivion, then take the banana clip out. The hair would stay up on its own - and we even went out in public like this. (Works best with really bad 80's perm and bangs teased sky high.

To my horror, there is a big family picture sitting on the mantle at my uncle's house that confirms it. Yikes!

I never did the banana clips.

But I have to say that 80's movies make me feel better about what my hair looked like back in the day. I saw the movies "Weird Science" and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" recently, and figure that if we all looked bizarre than bizarre was just normal.
