WWTBAM Bored

OMG! I just got off the phone with the DJ that's near us. I only wanted to make an appointment to see him, and ended up listening to him for nearly a half hour! Some of the stuff he mentioned sounds tacky to me, but I don't know what BD's reaction might be to it, so I'll leave it for a more complete blog entry.

Got to admit, though, his website is terrific. They even have up a slideshow of a wedding they did at the same venue as ours, not to mention some incredible testimonials. I mentioned the venue, and he immediately knew the name of the coordinator and gave me some tips on dealing with her. He definitely seemed to know his business.

What suggestions were tacky? If everyone otherwise likes this guy, could you ask that he not do those things?

The Chicken Dance is ok. The Macarena, Electric Slide, Boot Scootin' Boogie, et al, are not.

One question for you......did you get the impression that he would be the one doing your wedding or does he have minions?.......NTTAWWm.

mmff - I expect so. He went into detail on one of the cutesy things he has the newly married couple do. I've always found those things tacky and embarrassing, but others obviously do not. I am not sure about BD's taste. The fact that the groom and several groomsmen will be in military garb may make this particular bit even more tacky.

uly - Either one. He and his SO, who run the place, will do a dual gig, or we can have one of the 42(!) other members of staff. The dual gig is more money, b/c of two people, but they also offer more amenities and services than the solo DJ.

The other good news is that The Day is completely open for them. We would have our choice of DJ's from the group.

I'm with you on some of that stuff...it comes off too 'cute' and staged to be sincere and fun, usually.

We interviewed DJ's for our wedding. One guy sounded a bit like this guy. He wanted to have props and give-aways. I told him - no - that is not the kind of party I want.

He said "How else will you get people up to dance?"

I said "I will invite them to dance with me - they will."

He actually said to me "If your party sucks - don't blame me."

I didn't blame him, nor did I hire him.
