I think they mean "ironically" to be the opposite of their favorite adverb, "fittingly."

I think they mean "ironically" to be the opposite of their favorite adverb, "fittingly."

Were you not aware that Mao was eliminated in the preliminaries of the 1918 Miss America pageant? I think losing in a competition whose sponsoring organization initials spell out your own name would qualify as ironic.
